Hey everyone my name is zach I have an 82 king cab 720 its in pretty good condition considering it dosent appear to be missing anything and nothing is severely damaged. The seats are toast(feels like I'm sitting on chicken wire) and the engine runs like a fat cop(slow, sputters, squeaks, and bogs but no smoke or oil burn). So i really haven't even figured out where I want to start with this thing but I figured y'all could help me figure that out. I have a lot of things I really want to do to this truck but I don't know whats best or if certain things will even work so I'm just gonna list my ideas and let y'all pick your favorites to help me with.

-weld free seat swaps

-I want to run side drafts on whatever motor I swap in but I also want to get close to or past 200hp so what are good motors and what mods are needed

-what's required to get this thing to almost touch the ground without bags

-square gauges to round?

-wheel base(for IRS swap instead of straight axle and leads

-short shifter? Shifter mods?

-hid headlight install details

-interesting body styling(weird and wacky suggestions please. I like different)

-bolt on parts(not stock ones)

- newer or older part swaps(620 or d21)

-roll pans?

Ok well that's all I can think of now I'll try to put pics up tomorrow but when replying I'm not new to the business so to speak just the truck so being overly technical about stuff is more or less appreciated.

Oh and rat720 that 84 king cab you had. The guy you traded it to for the ford galaxy works across the street from me and just for the record you did text me about the truck I had the wanted ad on clist lol

Yea of course when I say close I'm thinking along the lines of like 150-170 and I'm looking at mikuni 50s(clist) but that seems a little overkill but with massive cams oversized valves roller rockers if possible it might not be. but knowing that, what are some suitable motors to get this kind of result with. I'm hoping for twin cam and I've read some things about cross flow heads I think. but my buddy at auto zone says he had a 720 and did an l20b swap he mentioned the fact that he was getting 150+ out of his side drafts and it uncovered my long lost desire to see what they are capable of

Welcome to Ratsun BTW!!!

I noticed you have a G20 aswell!

150hp on a L20B sounds about right with sidedrafts. it'd definitely have to have head work and a mild cam.

KA is a cheap and good option. it's around 140ish hp and torquey. side drafts on that would be nice.

Well I have lots of questions sorry but I was looking into the ka and I'm just a little weary of all the bypassing I'd have to do in light of the management systems also I was wondering if I would have enough space to bump up to an l28 and if I did what fab work would be required oh and the g20 is kinda funny my boss sold it to me for 300 bucks and I drove it ten miles back to my house without first or second gear lol I got it because of the sr20 in it but idk if I have the funds available to build it from top to bottom for a turbo

Local? How about Marietta/Smyrna area :P I'm about 30 minuets from Forged.

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. It's how the best Datsuns are born!

You can always build a long rod L20B with a nice little turbo biggrin.gif Or a carb'd VG30! If you got the money and don't feel like screwing with the EFI, you can always pay a visit to Garage Zero down in Winters Chapel and get John to swap it for you cool.gif

Seats - there is a thread just a few down from this one listing a number of good seat swaps. My personal favorite is using Z32 seats, it just requires a little drilling of the mounting holes, but they have to both be manual seats.

I would figure that a little finagling will get an L28 into the front of one of these but it's gonna take some work. Or go crazy and try and retrofit a VG intake into Side draft. These are ITB's but hey you get the idea

Original intake

That should get you to your power goal too. :)

For dropping and suspension, go read everything you can in Datto projects section. There are some really impressive builds that combine everything you are looking for. Just read, read, read.

And for "different" body ideas, go try google and search bosozoku, bosuzoku, bososoku, bosozuku, etc. The term is a japanese word regarding some pretty exreme styles that go all over the place. Check out this Bozo nonsense SWEET!

We are all happy to help a newb however we can, but from here, go do some serious forum searching and reading on here. There is tons of amazing information that is available on here.

Ok everyone ive done a lot of searching and I've learned a lot I've got me an 85 4x4 parts truck and it turns out that the dash wiring is different does anyone know what wires go to what so I can wire it up? Also bu different and wacky I was t thinking that extreme I was thinking more along the lines of using mustang bumpers or sentra headlights basically what kind of cool things can I do by modifying things at a pull a part also I'm trying to go with a classic tuner "theme" I want it to have similar style to the cars you normally see like 510s and maximas I like the fender flares but I'm not trying to go outlandish I just want this truck to look a less like a truck but for it to still be functional as one

I hope I have this strait, you have a complete 85 nissan 4X4, and you want to put the 85 dash in your 82, I would put the whole 85 wiring harness in the 82 truck, and I would move everything with it unless the two differant years have the same part, such as the column turn/headlight/wiper switch assembly.

This headlight conversion is what some have done, I am not sure what these headlights came out of, I have heard of 80s caprice, and maxima.

Ok I do have the complete 85 but my 82 is in near perfect condition and the 85 is rough the 82 is also black where as the 85 is tan so I'm only swapping the gauges but I am still taking the whole harness from the 85 but the blue and white clips are set up different when I plugged the 85harness into my 82 the headlight switch turned on my turn signal lights and my turnsignals just made the relays make funny noises

Yes they are. I installed an 85 720 dash in my 620 but the wiring harness was from an '81 or '82. The instruments are wired differently. Left turn made the brake warning light light up. I just swapped the wires around. Only thing I couldn't get to work was the hi beam indicator. This is the one with tach and clock, all working now.

I am talking about the whole wiring harness, from the front turn signals/headlights of the truck, to the taillights, everything electrical.

You don't have to change the dash itself, just the instrument cluster, as the instrument cluster goes with the wiring harness unless there the same model type, what I mean by that is square gauges go with square gauge wiring harnesses, but you will have to remove the dash to get the wiring harness out.

It's not that hard to do, but you have to remember how to put it back together.

Gees I was hoping you wouldn't ask. That was 10 years ago.

There are two 10 pin plugs or connectors... a BLUE and WHITE set . Seems I only had to swap wires on only one of them. (could be wrong) Compare the wire color codes on the dash harness side connecter to the wire colors of the corresponding instrument cluster harness connecter. If they are all there but don't match up you can just move them till they do.

I would change the ones on the dash harness and not the instrument harness. This way if you have to replace the instrument cluster the harness will just plug in and work.

To remove the pins, I used a straightened hair pin and push in and down beside the pin to bend the barb in so the wire can be gently pulled out. Don't have more than two out at a time and work on one color connector at a time. Make a diagram of the connectors and wire colors so you can go back to it. Try that first.
