blackdeth666
Well it didn't take long for me to beat up the old carrier bearing cross member.... I hit a raised manhole cover at about 5 mph and it damn near stopped the truck. I knew this would eventually happen as that hung over an inch lower than the bottom of the rockers in the dead center of the truck. I decided to cut it out... Just a little bent eh? well off to the rem bin at everett steel! 2x4 box tubing, then I welded in an exhaust notch (getting exhaust done monday which will run all the way down the driver side now). All welded in and painted! Nice and tucked up there now. I had to unbolt the cab (AGAIN!) and jack it up 10" or so to get better access. Did I mention how much I hate laying on the ground, overhead welding???LOL and yep you are lookin at my really loud flexi-pipe temporary exhaust.. cant wait to have a muff! I'm sure this wont be the last thing I have to fix/replace because my truck is really low, but hey it usually results in an upgrade! 2 Quote Link to comment

blackdeth666
Thanks for the complements dudes! It keeps me goin. Time for a little update. I finally got some center caps for the slots. Now I just need some cool stick on datsun logos for the center! any suggestions? Well the silly putty patching the rust hole in my gas tank gave way so it was time to figure out a new one. I saw an 11 gallon air tank at harbor freight for around $30 and it got me thinking.... If it can hold air it has to hold gas right? SO... I made the purchase. took it home and proceeded to cut the handle and foot off. It had a 1/2" pipe thread bung welded on the top where the psi gauge/air hose screwed in, so I flipped the tank over. This is now where the fuel hose connects. Then I made some new legs. I was able to get the fuel gauge sending unit out from the old tank after letting penetrating oil soak in over night. I figured I'd re-use it. I came up with a different hold down for it, looks kinda like an exhaust flange. I ordered up a weld in filler neck and cap, one you would use for a motorbike tank. cost $20 All done and installed! I used rustolium yellow to touch up where I added stuff. It matched the powder coat quite well! I know I could have picked up a tank from speedway for a few hundred bucks, but I liked the creative challenge! Ive been running it almost a month now, no leaks, no problems (knocking on wood) and I have a working gas gauge again :D Hopefully I get some years out of it. 6 Quote Link to comment

GRpufnstuf
Wow great build! Just read the whole thing. Most shops can't get this kind of work done in 6months, and the. It's not to this level of craftsmanship. Nice work 1 Quote Link to comment
