noguice
Does anyone have an easy way to compress the bumper shocks on a '79 510? I would like to pull the bumper in closer to the grill of the car to somewhat minimize it's size. I've tried removing it and didn't care for the looks. I also have removed the filler panel since it was mangled on one end. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You will have to drill a hole to let the oil and pressurized gases out. Seriously could be very dangerous to do so. Find out more about this. Quote Link to comment
king bee66
are they the same as on a b210? cause if they are you can take the bumper off and bag them in with a hammer, do it in increments though Quote Link to comment
noguice
done. not that bad. drilled the front shocks back near the mount and drained. then noticed when pulled the rear bumper to get to the back shocks that they had a phillips screw in the center of the rear shock to bumper mount. unscrewed that and it outgassed. after they they slid right in. ended up leaving the rear bumper off, will likely transplant the black rubber ends to the front since they are shorter. may also trim down and reuse the rear filler strip on the front as well. after i figured out about the screw, i took the front bumper off and did the same on each of those shocks, it again outgased making those easier to slide in, seems there may be 2 pockets, 1 gas, 1 oil. not sure. the front now has about a 1" gap between bumper and body. will post pics soon. As far as safety, not a huge issue, the pressure wasnt' much, but i deffinately suggest goggles and rubber gloves as the oil will spray. Quote Link to comment
