ggzilla
I heard a similar story. The upholstery job was great, looked and worked perfect. Later that winter when it rained, the seats started smelling... Quote Link to comment
atkinson40
I go to Tecate at least twice a week and will have work done there. I would not go to TJ for work. Too much tourist trade and the jacking of prices that goes along with the tourist trade. If I didn't speak fluent Spanish, I wouldn't have work done in Mexico at all. -K Quote Link to comment
510kevin
fuck that.... id never send my ride unattended into mexico. and also, why not support our countries economy? there aint shit made in america anymore, but shit i'd still rather pay an american shop to do my work 3 Quote Link to comment
NOTES...
Um.. TJ work is awesome when u know where to take it.. i know people down there and they have done plenty of cars for me super cheap and come out great.. I have a Business down there so its much easier to see where is a good shop and where is a rip off... Quote Link to comment
vervedatsun
I do feel bad about not supporting my local economy, but they have gotten a lot of money out of me already . And im planning on doing all the suspension through Troy Ermish hes american right? ha and tons of everything else suspension sway bars tuning you know how it goes.... as for the price im not sure to even even tell im still in denial about it ha... they started out at 1,400 and that was for EVERYTHING, carpet inside, weld the dozens of holes in the floor boards, paint inside the cab, the trunk, engine bay also welding some rust spots in front of the rear tires two tone orange and black paint outside headliner door panels rear inside panels literally everything except the dash.... ended up at .......850 US dollars!! I know it is impossible to get rid of the whole you get what you pay for but.. hey its worth the try i figure worst case getting it back ill go flat black primer like the rest of datsuns around here! I am more interested in mechanical working and they are not touching that. Once i get the car back together i wanna do a turbo kit or a sr swap that whole debate. My buddys dime has a 13b rotary and it is running strong, would like mine to have the same feel his. His dime On a mustang dyno had just about 250 wheel horsepower.... with low boost just abou 7 pounds we need to get his braking working before we add more power once i get the pics up here you'll understand why I took it there. literally had nothing to lose (except the car itself) it was just a shell and a ka swap 5 speed and two acura seats Quote Link to comment

atkinson40
got it done for 850 we will see how it looks For perspective: Minimum wage in Mexico is $1.85 an hour. Very, very skilled labor is $5.70. How many hours of labor you think? Maybe 20 tops for both interior and exterior? That's $114 for a very skilled laborer. How much material? Maybe $200? If you paid $850 then they took over $600 bucks profit. That's a lot of money in Mexico. A previous poster was right. You need to know where to take it and speak the language. First thing about buying services anywhere is to know what is a fair price. I kinda think maybe they knew you were green and took advantage, but I'll check prices in Tecate next week for comparison. I could be wrong. -K PS: Never quote, buy etc, services in dollars in Mexico. They associate dollars with having extra money and will jack you on the price. It sets the tone for the for the bargaining. You didn't take the time/respect to change your money = you're unaware of the environment and can be taken advantage of. Quote Link to comment
NOTES...
I had one of my cars sanded, primered, painted, cleared, wet sanded, and got all the body work such as dents and stuff taken care of here in TJ.. i paid 400 for everything.. came out looking siiick as fuck, yet again u have to know where to take it... Shagy
aw yes...the good ol TJ paint and body.... They used to use gas to help the paint dry quicker. You CAN get some good stuff done linke Notes said. Quote Link to comment
paisa13
Why wouldn't u want to save money and take ur car down to Mexico! Work is gonna be awesome!! Plus if u get the work done in the US, mexicans are still gonna do the work but for a lot more dough!! Quote Link to comment
atkinson40
Coming back across the border while waiting in line saw a body/paint shop across the street. Yelled out to the guy what he would charge me to paint my civic. Reply was $300. That means I can get it done in town away from the border crossing for about $250. I'm guessing about the same to have it reupholstered. So paint/reupholster for around $500 in Tecate. Quote Link to comment
godoy
↑ el UPER DELUXE BODY SHOP es famiosa ↓ this pic coulda been taken in socal .. i live in Tj, and i know that body shop, havent had any job done over there, but they seem to do a good work, theres a lot of body shop/upholstery places around that area. there are places for all budgets, i once got a crash that involved the rear bumper and part of the rear door fixed and painted for 30 bucks. it wasnt excellent but decent enough for 30 bucks Quote Link to comment
motavated
The dude looks happy. Fuck if they painted my whole car and interior for that much. I would be fucken happy. I got quoted 4k for a paint job and 1.5k the lowest cost I can find! So fuck, to me its a steal! There could be cheaper places in Mexico, but if this a place that is trusted. I would pay a little more to have my car in good hands... You look at my truck and its all fucked to shit. I was scared to take it to mexico. Now I don't give a damn.. Quote Link to comment
