I feel the same way... There's a difference between shitty customers and ignorant customers. As an individual being paid Ina specialized field ( read: car parts), unfortunately you have to deal with the people that only use their car for Point A to Point B duties and think they need to fill up on headlight fluid. But guess what?- that's why you get paid to work the counter.

You don't have to go out and run a compression check on their engine or install the alternator they just bought, but if they're struggling over an automotive concept or have a question.., you're the go-to guy for that shit.

see same point just more eloquent...that's what i liked when i sold paint on a counter for 15 years....i could differentiate the needs of every customer and know if i was giving them the wham bam quickie thanks and a smile or explaining the finer parts of f-ing up your paint buffing or that using a hotter reducer would net them a far nicer paint job....not everyone needed the 800 dollar spray gun and i tired to make sure i qualified my customer as to there needs or want before i went on the oh ....u just want touch up paint for your ford focus u scratched while out drinking last night, rant.....its a concept that really gets lost in big business and i don't fault the employees as much as the concept of there business...it's tough to get a employee at a numbered store that is reffered to as a number and is paid a number, which is prolly not enough for employee's liking, to care as much as the guys who originally started the concept years ago ... there is such a thing as too big a business....anyway ...my rant is not directed at hrh but more the concept i see it every day ... i go some where to buy something...like a tv ....then i get this oh what.....u wanna buy something ...sigh attitude ... and i try to fight through it , to get what i want but then the "know it all, spitefully talk.." starts from them and im out the door ....I GET IT. you know it all... that's why you got hired and i am coming to you... cause u know and sell it and i wanna know and wanna buy it ...or i did at least...

i think maybe u should stop being a dick and explain to the customer the situation ......i hate dealing with arrogance at any shop whether it be furntiture or auto parts.....drop the fucking attitude and help people...that's what your paid to do ....and if your customer keeps asking the same question...that's a fucking que to explain your self...

you must have never worked retail before. a lot of customers are just stupid and dont understand.

Hi, i need this part

~sorry, i dont have it in stock

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DONT HAVE IT!?!? ITS A 40c PIECE OF PLASTIC, WHY WOULDNT YOU GUYS KEEP IT IN STOCK!?!?!? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIX MY CAR NOW THAT YOU DONT HAVE IT!?!?

I have and its still the same concept. Theres a difference between customers who have no clue what they are trying to buy (ignorant) and people who come in and act like a douche. Minimum wage pay is no incentive to deal with asshole customers beyond the initial try to help and be pleasant. You try and then see nothing will change so you give it. Im not dealing with it for minimum wage. But if someone came in to the Target/Kmart/Sears that I worked at and didnt know the different between metric and standard wrench sizes or course I would explain and try to help. I wouldnt want them buying the wrong thing.

This specific attitude reminds me of a getting a tow last. Guy came out and asked if the car was auto and rear-wheel drive. I said yes, most Datsuns are RWD. So he just complained that the dispatcher didnt tell him he needed to car dolly it. Then just bitched and complained the whole like it was my fault and was an asshole. If you dont like towing cars, maybe you shouldnt be a tow truck driver. Ill take the credit for having a lowered car... those are a little more difficult to trailer, but to be an asshole because my car is RWD? Fucking stupid. You dont like what you do, then quit.

two more days jrock see you in hell. Now I get paid to work on datsuns all day. Its awesome. auto parts on the weekend. I wish I still had the jobber job. Shops tell you what they want and bam its done. I see both sides. The retail side most of my problems are with some broke ass motherfucker who should not be near a car. Repair manuals are on sale. Smart phones, the world and porn at your fingertips...

its what i did since 14 years old till i was 33ish, car toys- 4 years , paint jobber 15...now, self employeed adult babysitter of 6 over priivelaged and under compensateed employees...i love them, they love me....

u make a concious decision of how you chose to represent yourself professionally....u can either appreciate the fact u have a job and do it..... or u can go from job to job every 1.5 years..blaming your employeer for why the job isn't fulfilling

i was once told that we only work so we can go do other things...like datsuns or boats or in the case of sum...stalking chicks on facebook...but in the end we are only working to make money to do the things we wanna spend or money on...so u can choose to make that time crappy and the worlds full of idiots(which it is )and everyone is out to get you or you can spend 8 hours helping the dumb understand the simple....and trust me the day goes by way quicker when u aren't complaining about what you cant control...and who knows u may find a datto or two ....

the sooner you choose to just understand everyone is dumber than us and that's the way it is and no amount of complaining will ever change that, the sooner u can just be happy you made some money .... you got a datsun to work on and maybe a warm hole to stick it in....

im bringing my goon will you help me with the exhaust tunnel.....i figure we can just put some lava on it instead of welding...

i agree though, when working the paint jobber i loved rapping with shops, cause they had a list and there was never a debate ..... we could bullshit and i wouldn't have to get the: now where's the paint code followed by, is it a number and what should i be looking for question...so i can sympathize... but on slow days i cherished the reinventing of the wheel conversations i had trying to get from point a to point b with the " ohh i cant paint it with a brush" crowd...i could burn up two hours on one of those...which usually lead to frequent and spendy return trips when plan a didn't work...which allowed the company to both get more employees and pay them better..

this customer is obviously dumb, and i get similar things each day, and much worse from the independent repair shops.

all the while the car could have been on the truck backwards or a roll back in route but he felt the need to give a running dialog about how all these things are against him.... so what figure it out tow guy ... when u show up to a wreck do you complain the cars on its roof or do you relish in the fact you throw a j hook on the bitch and drag it all over on its roof or flopping it over...

lol tristin yo shoulda called me .... last week in the pouring rain we tow strapped hans 521 behind the lowered tahoe down the side of i 5 2 miles to a buddys shop to swap the fuel pump .....it was 6 am and the worst rain of the winter so far....

edit: oh yeah your the king of flats....well i got og spares and a bottle jack so call me? or we could start a post on face book about it

This was awhile ago... nothing recent. Like I said, I can handle the fact that the tow straps he was using wouldnt fit behind my tires because they were so close to the struts and that he had to jack up the car because it was so low. I made it that way and Im sorry. But to bash an owner of a common feature on a car is just ridiculous. He was beyond rude. He went so far as to say that if he heard about a Datsun over the CB, he would purposely flatten his own tire so he didnt have to come out and help.

Im sorry you had to tow a car tow truck driver. Feel free to go back and fall asleep in the Albertsons parking lot awaiting your next call.
