Did they stop selling new head bolts?

Recommended Posts

it seems as if they stopped selling new headbolts for my l18. Also 200sx, 280zx and all the things that can also work. I'm kind of at a loss. I can't reuse my head bolts as they look a little weak right now. the motor has been sitting for a while. What is everyone doing to cope with this? Anyone have some head bolts they want to sell me? I remember being able to buy headbolts for the L series last year. This is a new development to me. I just bought my 510 at Canby after not having one for a few years.

They are totally reusable. You can probably find someone with a set they don't need for the postage. I know what you mean though. I've seen some where the threads look eroded or chewed up.

Yeah these ones aren't that great. I had one bolt twist and get thin near the head (luckily it didn't break) but that makes me worried about the rest. I called my machinist and he said he was going to call his core supplier to see if he had the lead on some and come back with a price listing. I was hoping they just sold blanks that you could get threaded but it isn't the case. Thanks for the tips.

Iv always been able to get new head bolts.

but if they are now NLA you can get ARP head studs. a bit more spendy but there indestructible lol

where are you getting your head bolts from?

buy some turbo ones.

turbo head blot (long) m-11059-p7600

turbo head bolt (short) m-11056-p7600

buy them on here

I had them look up bolts for a 510, 620, '79 200sx, '82 200sx, 280zx, and 280zx turbo and they didn't have any of them. are you giving me part numbers or does nissanparts.cc _actually_ have them in stock?

Ninja edit: Nevermind. I just checked on my own and they have them online.

And if you choose to go ARP you do not need to get studs~ they'll supply you with whatever you need. It'd be more than hardware store g-8's or 10.9's but still less than studs. Just try finding Corvair flywheel bolts~ 11/32"x24 tpi!

I've always bought head bolts from Nissan directly. Last time I bought a set, I got the ARP head stud kit. Way better for high compression motors. I doubt you'll find any parts stores selling them. Usually we only sell bolts that need to be replaced when the head is removed. The KA is like that. I got a brand new head bolt set from Fel-Pro when I built the truck motor. L motors should be fine for reusing, but check for weakness, pitting, corrosion, rust. Other than that, find a set of nice black ones, clean them up on the wire wheel and good to go!
