2011 Anual Welding Rodeo!

Recommended Posts

I have been staying out on Whidbey Island for the last couple months and good friend of mine who owns Heavy Metal Works was telling me about a 'welding rodeo' in Bellingham, Wa. The rodeo consists of 10 'professional' 4 person teams who have 8 hours to pick through a HUGE scrap yard from B.T.C. and construct a sculpture that is judged on technique, safety, form, & originality. They provide 2x 20amp circuits, a Mig, Arc, Oxy, and have plasma tables in the shop. For more info & pic check out the site: Welding Rodeo There ended up being a free spot on the team and the rest is history! :D This years theme was 'free form' and we came up with an idea for a 'Dali type animated walking house' We also wanted to look more pro and so we made up some awesome jumpsuits with our logo on the back and call names on the front! The day of we take off from south Whidbey around 4:30am and get started!

We found enough sheet metal for the "Tim Burton" house and some BIG ass chain for the legs!

Right at the last minute we had a idea to make a ball & chain for one of the legs, Weld it in place & cut the chain in half: 'Freed Form'
