racerx
Datsun 510 1971...sometimes my Datsun will not click when I put the key in the ignition..then this morning I hit the starter/solenoid with a piece of wood. Could this be my starter/solenoid or ignition. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Well if you ran over a log, it is possible the starter became damaged. Many times I have had a bad click caused by a bad starter solenoid. But only twice from a bad ignition switch. The way to tell is by testing (or by replacement). The most common cause is dirty battery cable connections. Sometimes is causes no click. Sometimes click-click-click. Clean the cable ends is fast and easy. Quote Link to comment
racerx
yeh, next time it happens. I have a remote starter and will connect to solonoid and if it starts then I know it's the solenoid sticking..checked my battery not corroded and it's on tight. Quote Link to comment

racerx
yeh. kinda of starnge because when the car did not start, it did not even click..in the past when my starter went bad I usually hear a click...that's why I was maybe thinking it was also the ignition key... Quote Link to comment
