Those Volts are nothing but hype. They use fossil fuels (coal usually and gasoline). The cost of the batteries is more than 1/2 the cost of the car and they should last about 5 years (don't hold me to that I remember it being a ridiculous short time frame) and the batteries aren't exactly all that environmentally friendly either.

 

You definitely got it on cost of ownership but explain the fuel economy

Datsuns are beyond cheap to own. Then again they can also be fixed with jb weld and duct tape. As far as ad milage is concerned the nifty fifty was bit of a stretch. I know someone who got 42 mpg in a sedan though which isn't bad. It all comes down to power to weight (or more of a lack there of in the case of old datsuns) the volt is how heavy? And the engine needs to be how big to move that additional weight? Saw somewhere they showed how Toyota prius have more impact than a hummer because of all the shipping and those Eco killing batteries that last 3 years
