I was just wondering why you need to change all the ball joints and steering knuckles? why not just the arms?

From his other thread:

I have a 1968 510 and I need to replace the ball joints. I have brand new ball joints already for a 1970-73 510 but they are bigger than the 68 ball joints. Can I just swap control arms? I have a extra set of 70-73 control arms that I can use.

The early arms have a funky tapered bushing - good luck finding new ones, whereas later arm bushings can be found, or aftermarket polyurethane or delrin can be used. The ball joint bolts to the arm with normal through-bolts, the steering knuckle connects to the ball joint with a tapered bolt which is 11mm on early models, 14mm on later models, and then the steering knuckle bolts to the struts. You cannot use an 11mm ball joint with a 14mm steering knuckle, and vice versa. I just remembered that the steering knuckle tie rod joints may also have a different size tapered bolt, so you'd have to change tie rods if you change knuckles...waaah waaahhhhh.

Billy I will trade you those swaztika zx rims I have for those control arms. When you take the bushings out of the 68/69 control arms can you remove the metal sleeve inside the bushing? I ask because I found bushings on EGAY but they don't come with the sleeve.
