rojadoja
Does anyone have an a rough idea/ballpark estimate on the cost to swap in a KA24DE. I am looking for a KA that has already has a trans. Before I head down the long road of building this L20, I thought I'd do some comparing. Also, is anyone making swap mounts for a project like this, or should I expect some fab time? THANKS!! Quote Link to comment
620mike
ur best bet is to find a wrecked 240sx and buy the whole car... u would have everything that way but iv bought two complete swaps for 400 each and that was everything i needed.. motor, trans, wiring, maf, coil, ecu, rad, hoses, trans mount, ect. pretty easy swap once u figure it out.... u dont need any mounts other then the stock mounts from each engine and trans and there really is no real fab.. maybe cut a hose or two...if u want u can call me when ur ready and i can walk u throuh it..... iv done two all ready starting my third and also a q45 v8 swap Quote Link to comment
southern620
I bought a running KA off a kid for 250. It was EVERYTHING I needed. Still gotta shorten the driveshaft though. That's alot cheaper then when I overhauled my l20 a couple years ago Quote Link to comment

Although if i had to do it all over again I shoulda went SR route, since I wanna turbo my ka i think it = out to bout the same really. some guys run the stock mounts on 510's. I made my own just so i could set the engine back where it belongs most 240 mounts looked to me like they jacked the engine to far foward. Thats just my opinion though. Quote Link to comment
620mike
yea all the little stuff does get expensive i wish i would have kept track if i had to guess i would say i was in it around a grad the first time Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
I kept track...I'm afraid if I add it up, it's more than $1800. Totally worth it though. 1 Quote Link to comment
GOLSETH
I too have been looking into doing a KA swap. Heard its not too difficult! Now i just need to fork out the dough! Quick question for those of you who have done the swap! Are you running an LSD? Did you swap out the rear end? What are your setups? Quote Link to comment

I know I stopped counting at 1200 doing my single cam swap in my 620, and I got that engine for 100$!!!!!!!!!!! All the little stuff adds up though. Gotta do a new clutch while your in there too :) Quote Link to comment
carl
what do you guys do for the motor mounts Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
I modified the KA brackets and used the stock 620 rubber mounts. My build is in my sig. ;) Are you running an LSD? Did you swap out the rear end? What are your setups? Still running the stock 4.375 diff. I have a set of 3:55's and a set of 4:11's to try out eventually. Might weld up the 4.375 for fun :D Quote Link to comment

jastrunk97
is there any difference between a ka24e and a ka24de? im a noob and don't know all that much 1 Quote Link to comment
love_my_gt
yep...e is a single cam motor. Pretty bullet proof.... De is a twin cam motor. De has a bit more horse power and more stock options over the years. Quote Link to comment
jastrunk97
they would both fit in a 620 without to much fab work? 1 Quote Link to comment
love_my_gt
Yeah the blocks are pretty close. I'm doing a de swap in my 620 this spring. Bought a 95 240 sx to use as a donor. Quote Link to comment
jastrunk97
what about the oil pan? how would the front clear it? 1 Quote Link to comment
love_my_gt
Either way you will have to use the oil pan and pick up tube from a truck motor. Unless you get goofy and have a pan custom made. Or modify either the pan or the k member. Both of which have been done by others in the past. Quote Link to comment
carl
all you need to do is reverse taper the center link the stock oil pan will work Quote Link to comment
Datsun Parts
I had a local fab shop convert my KA to power steering and the 240SX oil pump worked just fine. Just be ready to spend about $1200! Quote Link to comment
