r0p0doe
what happend to the roof? Quote Link to comment
zianian
That is the patina RO. It's also distressed. Spots and about half the roof have been ground down and sanded. Some spots are exposed steel some are just down to primer. I think the bare spots must have been treated with something 'cause they aren't getting any more surface rust. I'm gonna treat them again too. Read about some lube type stuff called Gibbs Brand. Sounds/looks pretty good. I like the distressed look. Hate washing/waxing/detailing/futzing more. To do/wish list... GPS speedo (or any that works). Maybe new windshield (cloudy n air bubbles) Maybe rear discs. Maybe move/insulate the fuel pump. (It's louder then the engine) Get used to not using the passenger side rear view mirror. (Looks cooler then it works) Build temp "garage" for Harley. Smile often. Quote Link to comment
r0p0doe
I was Jw because if I.remember correctly it wasn't always like that but she has been passed around a bit so things change, anyways we need some pics and videos man Quote Link to comment
zianian
They're coming RO. Gotta get her gussied up (and legal) first. Insured and registered... check & check. SpeedHut GPS Speedometer ordered... check. That metal treatment lube stuff ordered... 2 cans... check. Fixed hazard light switch... check. Taped up (repaired) steering wheel upper plastic cluster automatic transmission gapping hole gap... check. (ain't duct tape the best?) to do... Figure out why driving lights ain't firing & fix it. Get back up lights working. I'm thinking maybe just a micro switch mounted inside the car activated when tranny is put into reverse. Pass state inspection. Drive it. (pass or no pass... it'll be driven) Smile. Quote Link to comment
zianian
Headlight Help Wanted. (I'll post this all up in another topic/area if I should) I got the hazard switch fixed... Did I tell ya that already? A lil tiny drilling and a screw and some hot glue and some flat black to finish it all off. Good thing this ain't a resto job.... I just wanna pass NY State Inspection. Picky basturds. . Got the reverse lights working. Another hack. Spent hours under car looking for the tranny reverse switch (found that) and the automatics old inhibitor/reverse switch wiring (couldn't find that). Gave up. Hacked it. Micro switch mounted at gear shift engaged when stuck in reverse. Solder, wire, shrink tube, hot glue, hot wired, flat black done. But first I had to trace and find and repair the 3 or so breaks/cuts in the reverse light wiring back in the trunk. Done. Also needed a bulb. Done. Order/make shift lever boot. Go for ride 3am check. (sorry neighbors) I'm gonna be doing a lot of "sorry neighbors". Next up... headlights. This is NOT gonna be fun. I need help. The stock headlight switch blew out years ago (or was miswired at engine swap time)... not exactly sure. Sean never drove it at night so he didn't need lights much. Right now the aftermarket switch (see images) is hooked up but not real proper. I think it is a "genuine" type Datsun lightswitch... not real Datsun. I think. 3 position/2 pull. First pull and IF the dimmer/bright stalk is "down" (brights on) the headlights light.... ONLY dims. If bright/dimmer stalk is closer to driver NO headlights. Pull the headlight switch again and headlights off no matter the stalk position and driving lights come on. I will double check but I think at one of those headlight positions the tach light also goes out. (yellow and the reddish/orange wire jacked/attached to headlight switch are far added gauge lights). Switch has 5 pins at connection. The one it's hooked into (the stock Datsun headlight connection) has 4. I sure would like to have working dims and brights and a stalk that tell'sem what to do. stalk for good measure.... Thanks for any input. My head hurts. Quote Link to comment
INDY510
I think my bright/hi-beams go on when the stalk is pulled towards the driver . ..... .. and go back to low beams when I push it forward ..... .. you weren't expecting this to be a daily driver, right?????..... Quote Link to comment
zianian
I think my bright/hi-beams go on when the stalk is pulled towards the driver . ..... .. and go back to low beams when I push it forward Thanks Indy. lol That reminds me... When it first showed up I thought it didn't have any headlights. Then I read the F in manual. Come to find out that Datsun made that turn signal thingy into a bright/dimmer switch too. I did not know that. Turns out the lights did/do work... partially. ..... .. you weren't expecting this to be a daily driver, right?????..... Nope, But last three days have been nice = Daily. and once at night... or more like morning. btw... Any local folks know of any decent tuner type shops in the Rochester or Buffalo area? About to call one close to me.... see if they are excepting new patients. But word of mouth is always good... sometimes. Thanks again. btw II... I don't think Willow the dog cares much for the car. She hasn't seen as much of me since the car has arrived. Sorry Willow. zianian
Idle control valve. Put that on the to do list too. Quote Link to comment
zianian
Or maybe it's the MAP I need tweaked. Quote Link to comment
510T
How would an Idle control valve get hooked up to this itb setup? And where is the MAP sensor? I'm not too familiar with ITB's... Love the car though this thread needs moar 8500 rpm smoky burnout video  Quote Link to comment
zianian
Good questions baba, This image might help with the ICV ... http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o107/Silvia_Convertible/quickAICVwater.jpg Seems like it's located more under the intakes and also on the block. And I think the MAP sensor is a black box attached to the passenger side firewall with a mess of tubes going to a few of the ITBs. I will get some images of same when I can. I also think the car could just benefit from having a tune for NY conditions. Not sure but maybe our winter gas and also temps and who knows what else has effected the engine and the tuning for TX conditions. We're going to the car doc on the 16th Smokey burnouts soon... We hope. Good smoke (tire) not bad (head/pistons/etc). . Quote Link to comment
zianian
Maybe it's the fuel pump. Yeah. Lets try that. btw... This is the MAP (I think)... There is another too.... off to the right with the barely visible barcode sticker on it. Ain't being used. I'm learning a lot. (I think) Quote Link to comment
zianian
Maybe it's the fuel pump. Yeah. Lets try that. Sure enough. Back to smiling again. Vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. 4200rpm SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Quote Link to comment
zianian
I think my bright/hi-beams go on when the stalk is pulled towards the driver . ..... .. and go back to low beams when I push it forward Is that the way they all came from the factory? Seems backwards to me. Stalk forward = brights stalk back = dims seems more right to me. But what do I know? I'm used to the good old foot switch dimmer. btw... my stalk is too long anyways. I think at least 1/3rd of it has to go. Surprised I ain't clipped the whole thing down to the nub crawling in and out of the darn car. Quote Link to comment
zianian
Thanks Nico, But if it's nice I didn't do it. The last few owners did the heavy lifting. I'm just buttoning some things up and having fun. This thing will sure get your heart going. Quote Link to comment
