Dose any one have a part number for the greas seal that goes in the rear hub  or  should I just noT put one in  It goes before the wheel bearing it self

I learned when buying from Rockauto to just by all that sound right. They have several listed as rear outer which I think is the grease seal. There only 1-3$ each.  That’s what I did this summer.

I just ordered axle shim for my 1972 521... you can find them from nissan under an 84 720....

They have 5 sizes available...

Screenshot-20210322-195705-Chrome.jpg

Plus. 43086-b9500 - T=.150

The sizes are listed in metric...

So the conversation is:

T=.150 =.0059

T=.070 =.0028

T=.100 =.0039

T=.200 =.0078

T=.500 =.0197

Also incase your wondering they come split from the factory...

I though mine were all broke till I got the new ones... still need them but I was surprised to see the split....

Axle shim?

What are these used for? Like the purpose of them?

the shims are number > 27 - 34. There used to shim the axle out from the 3rd member for proper adjustment.

Yep.. still not getting how they work or what they are doing.

Whats being adjusted?

Clearly I get they are shims.

Never had to deal with them, at least not yet.

If the shim wasn't there what would happen?

Basically the bearing clearance....

If you had no shims the axle hub would bind up on the bearings....

The shims adjust and set the axial clearance on each axle. For the 620 (521 is likely the same but check) the end play, that's the in and out movement of the axle, is only 0.0008-0.0059" or 1 to 6 thou. Newsprint is 0.004" so you may not be able to feel it. Excessive play will allow the axle to hammer side to side and that's not good. Too tight and it's rough on the bearings.

It was set at the factory so save the shims and put back on the correct side.

It's the equivalent of checking the front wheel bearings....you know how you tighten them and then back the nut off to allow a bit of play.  This end play....axial clearance......check is to make sure that your not causing the bearing to bind by forcing the axle to tightly against the thrust block inside the diff.  Download the manual.  It's page 123/124 (RA3 & 4).  Hmmm....I just learned that I can copy/past from my adobe. lol....cool. :)  It's hard to see in the second pic, but you use a dial indicator and (typically) a magnetic stand to check how far the axle will move in and out.  Too little causes binding...too much makes it sloppy......not sure what the drawbacks are...noise? premature wear?

I emailed/messaged Ted a few weeks ago about something else and have heard nothing yet.

I sold my last wiper assembly a couple weeks ago, I have a RHD one but it is different.

Hey I realise this is a loong shot since this post was from years back. But do you still have a RHD assembly by any chance?
