This isn't a newspaper where you are charged by the letter. Brevity does not help a sale. Shortened words, misspelled words, run on sentence, missing punctuation..... Prices usually have a $ sign before them. A too long ad can be shortened. To short will just cause questions.

If selling something is important to you then you should make it as easy as possible for prospective buyers to read it. If it's illegible or difficult to make out then mistakes are made. Pictures sure go a long way when selling something. People will judge you and your work by how much time you spent and how professional your for sale ad was. If you can't speak or write English have a friend do it for you. Get professional help. This is why there are professional resume writers out there.

First off, I just want to make it clear I’m not arguing with you guys. I generally agree to a point. I’m just commenting from another point-of-view….

Like I stated, "I had no problems making out what he had for sell". Just because it's hard to read doesn't mean the thread needs to be locked. Some have differing levels of education and others have other barriers (i.e. language, computer skills etc...) to contend with. You're last sentence is just, “WOW”. Many who post the way they do don't even realize that their post/thread doesn't make any sense....

Instead of locking the thread wouldn't a PM pointing out their mistakes make more sense? All they are going to do once they find their thread locked is what we got here (an angry thread about the thread lock) , or just another "For Sell" thread much like the one that they created and was locked. If this is such a big issue, why don't the Admin/Mods create a base "For Sell" template with a comment section below for the seller to add his .02 on the item for sell?

I agree with you guys generally, but sometimes the nit picking goes a little far just for someone trying to sell something here. I mean who cares if the item(s) never sell do to their dyslexic output. The only one really hurt in the end is the seller....

I know you aren't arguing. You may be able to decrypt that ad but you shouldn't have to and neither should anyone else. I don't correct peoples grammar..... well hardly do. When someone posts about a closed for sale thread well maybe then I would point out some short comings. I never correct anything in a thread but I will correct a title so that the search function can find it easier. For example the search won't find "the ultimate break thread" if you type in "the ultimate brake thread".

BTW Pictures are not a reason for closing a for sale thread. There is no 'rule' for having to use them. Sellers are strongly advised to post good quality pictures though. It only makes sense to include them. Not everyone has access to a digital camera.

Any of the other forums I frequent adhere to certain standards in the classified forums, but I'll chip in and say that I, too, feel that a mod should at the very least provide a reason they're locking a thread. Otherwise, we all have to deal with the poster a second time as they either post their FS ad again immediately, or jump into General chat and whine about it.

Was the wording incredibly hard to discern and made me want to smash my keyboard? Sure. Is that a reason to lock a thread? In my opinion, no...

Just because something that was clearly written by a four year old was posted under false pretense that it was anything remotely close to a for sale ad was hard to read doesn't warrant a lock. He included price, location and a brief description of what he had for sale. If it was written poorly (which it was), the only problem that arises is that he'll have a hard time finding a buyer.

If someone wants to buy something he has for sale badly enough, they'd figure out what this poor, mentally handicapped seller was trying to convey with his own twist on the English language and get in touch with him. If they can't be bothered to do so, oh well.

If Ratsun is getting to the point where extra Moderators are being put on, and extra rules are put in place to be enforced, then they should strive to try to correct posts that go against the posted rules.

1. Must have price

2. Must have location

Hell, hosestop even put a phone number and description! He went above and beyond what Ratsun asked him to, and was locked for it.

MY only point that I'm trying to get to is that posts should only be locked if they break a rule. Even then, there should be a reason POSTED for the lock.

But hey... I'm just a lurker.

What happed to the old days when we never locked anything but Viagra adds and agentalpha/jukeism/caddyhack

Good times.. Good times...

Its too much people now. The "IN" Group was cool with all this nonsense crap. But then new people got in and got "OFFENDED"... SO new rules had to be implemented.

If his add sucked balls. Let it sink to the bottom and die. But if it got out of hand then lock it. O well, more drama!

IBTL!!!!

its not about anyone getting offended, its about keeping the F/S section on order.

its what needs to happen when a forum starts getting this big.

a small forum can regulate itself but the bigger you get the more you have to step in and enforce the rules

the new F/S rules are not hard to follow. but if for some reason someone finds it just tooo fuckin hard. then I guess their SOL

I didn't lock it and am just catching up to it now. Also never heard about it from the OP.

But just wanted to say folks, that we are trying new things to keep the forum a productive place, but there is a learning curve for us as well as everyone else. There is a bunch a grey area we mods are trying to figure out.

We're growing people! And that is a good thing (I think  ) but comes with growing-pains for everyone, even mods! We will get through them.

Ratsun is still the best freakin forum on the interwebs! :D
