First one yeah it's nice but WTF on that price tag. He mentioned a 280 hp l series and I would way rather have that in the car. Fail for dropping 2 cylinders and having an engine without much

build making a measly pussed out 300 hp off boost. Yeah sr is cool but not in a z

second car is just too gross for me to follow the link. Enough said

Have any of you guys seen the build thread for the first one? He has about 4 years worth of work and alot of cash into it. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/74214-full-on-resto-mod-of-a-240z/page__view__findpost__p__705862__fromsearch__1

Now the second one on the other hand, I've seen in person and talked to the guy for about a half hour. He's a redneck guy that has all kinds of Chevy's and what not and told me he wanted $16k for it and this was 2 months ago. The interior is hacked up and disgusting, and he has diamond plating floors in the back. The car definitely needs some work.

not to a dumb chevy owning redneck... Lime green paint tasteless stickers and dimond plating are signs of a classy well finished machine!

the SR car is a gorgeous piece of work

id never pay 60k for it.... altho I would shell out a good amount. theres alot of cash into that car

That z is certainly pretty. It is a well executed design. 60K? NO way. 20K? Yeah, probably.

I'm definitely in the six figures now, guys.

And that was posted by owner on about page 6 of a 21 page build thread, and if i had that kind of money i would buy this car and the White Knight put them in a climate controlled garage and lock myself in there with them.

If he spent tripple figures to make the car of his dreams why in the hell would he sell it?! Yeah it's well worth 20k but why get so over the top to begin with? 20k into a z is a lot of money. I guess if you got it you better spend it. If not it's just numbers in the bank not being put to good use

Did anyone else notice that the second car has 350z decals?

Yea it's got a 350 Chevy motor. Makes sence but sure is fuckin lame.

The first car is way bad ass. I would have but a little stroker in there but what the hell do I know.

Said something like he doesn't have time to properly enjoy it and could use the money. I think it says in the ebay ad.

I'm not even a z-car guy, but I really like the first one. The level of build quality really looks top notch. I would say it is worth 60K...but what do I know. With how pristine the car is, you are basically buying a new car. If I had the money and was in the market for a new sports car, I would prefer this over one of the new appliance cars. Some Wats to replace the CCW's, lower it a little...ooohhh man it would be sweet!

He originally posted it on the internetz for 125k. And was then promptly defended by all the fabricators as being worth that and more.

For what amounts to an SR powered Datsun. A really, REALLY nice SR powered Datsun, but a Datsun at that. I feel if he went with a 6 he'd have more of a chance of getting somewhere close to what he wanted, but what to I know?

In one of his build threads (6speedonline I think) he was saying he was selling it because he's going on a missionary trip.

I hate when people put so much time and money into a build and immediately sell it.

Um, I don't doubt there is a HUGE investment in this car. Paying to have paint and body work done can easily top 12K for a top/bottom/inside/out job like that. Those that have done "everything" on a Datsun lately (I mean quality weatherstripping, trim, chrome, glass, interior) know that it adds up fast.

The Arizona Z billet control arms, full custom fabricated bits ALSO add a chunk of change that we can all do the math on.

Fikse wheels (I believe) are custom and not cheap...

The SR is...well,...a nice engine, plenty of power, nice 'n light... the choice in a Z is personal. I've been impressed with everything but the SOUND of Sr's, and again that's personal. After experiencing the symphony of sound of..say..a 3.0 litre ferrari v12 with carburated induction noise..my tastes just turn otherwise. I'm probably obsolete and DEFINITELY "old school" in my tastes, but a 350/355 SBC, a plain 302 with good exhaust, and a nice cammed 2.8(+) L series 6 cyl (sidedrafts or ITB's please) are all great soudtracks, and for the "BELIEVED VALUE" - I'd want it all.

HOWEVER!! For my part I'd have to say this Ebay auction (and the ultimate top bid) may very well NOT represent a TRUE bidder. I am well-aquainted with high-value used, collectible car sales. There are certainly cars that sell at some of the high-profile auctions (RM etc), but often eBay is used as an exposure tool ONLY.

I really HATE to say something that sounds negative, but that's my hunch and I guess this is the kind of forum where I can state that hunch - and be supported or FLAMED! -bring it!

This is an amazing car. I have done SOME similar work but NOTHING to this degree and I totally respect the effort and the end result. Furthermore, that is some SWEET PHOTOGRAPHY! But as far as actually getting $60K, $70K... $125K! I'd say it's a rare buyer with LOTS OF TIME (to sit on the investment) and money that would put up the cash. I agree 100% that it's so much more car than the factory restos that were recently done, but we must remember that folks who pay big money for older cars have a collector state of mind, and not many of them are foolish about making an investment that won't pay off.
