Im seriously digging this car and cant wait to see what craziness you will come up with for it.

If you take one of the old scotchbrite pads and clean all the paint gunk out of it, it will work well to apply wax after you get her all cleaned up.

I used paint reducer and a bunch of old rags on an old spraypainted junkyard fender on a 74 courier I had in highschool... It took the spraypaint right off. Funny thing is that the fender was actually the same color underneath the rattle can and when I got it all cleaned up it looked better than the rest of the truck. The reducer also works well for getting around trim and window seals by using a very stiff short bristled nylon brush to work it around and wiping it up with a rag.

When you are done, use a worn out green scotchbrite pad to apply polishing compound to it then finish up with a nice wax... it might actually shine back up pretty nice... if thats what youre going for.

I usually dont like when people replace the radio and heater controls with guages but that setup looks friggin sweet and its functional to boot. If it were me, Id toss the heater back in (after you check the condition of the foam gaskets...) get it all hooked up, run the fan off of a relayed toggle switch and adjust the vent controls by hand. Seriously, I only change mine twice a year... once when in the winter and once in the summer. As long as my windshield has defrost and my feet are warm... who friggin cares.

Ill bet this thing would be a friggin blast in the anow with some nice studs...

Oh yeah... try not to let those chemicals saturate the window rubbers too bad.

Looking sooo good fisch! I'm going to have to try to get my yellow rattle can off. Kinda worried what I'll find. I got Blue under that and original orange under that. Looks like your having fun with your new dime. Any idea which way you're going with this? Rat and patina? The anticipation is killing me! Keep it up.

Those would be so sweet! Man a world of wheels just opened up for me with this thing. I come from the desert of 6X114.3!

The wallet has to recover from the purchase, so I may have to get creative with the Z's for a bit. But one can dream!

Where we stopped for the night. I actually enjoy this sort of thing. Like a zen garden for me.

That's how I feel about sanding and cleaning off Crylon too! Thinking is cool, but it's nice to take a break every once in a while and do something that takes no thought at all :) The car looks awesome! I'm with Jeremy, slam it!!!!!!!

Thanks for the continued interest guys! I wouldn't mind going a little lower in the front, but would love to keep a staggered stance. I will have to figure out how to get him a little lower. But the roads around me aren't the best, so not too low!

I am still away from the garage for the T-day break, so no progress has been made. Can't wait to get back! But I got more history from Chris of Maine and will add it here!

From Chris:

"I've attached several pictures taken around 2004 when the LZ22 went into the car. BTW, here is a quick history:

1989-1990: Bought the car, registered it in Pennsylvania, drove it less than a year. It had an L16, 4 speed at the time.

1991-1995: Unregistered it, stored in a garage, started work on it as a project car. Installed all new rear (halfshaft) universal joints and rear axel bearings. I had other 510 drivers a this time, and it became a parts donor on occassion.

1995: Re-registered it in Pennsylvania, trailered it to Maine with the family when we moved up here (the longest drive of my life, I'll tell you that story another time). Registered it in Maine, drove it six months, then purchased a 510 wagon driver, and put it back into garage storage.

1995-2004: Sat in storage, gave up lots of parts as a donor car, including the engine and trans. (picture 0608 was taken around this time).

2004: Pulled out of storage, installed LZ22 & 5 speed, installed all new front end parts (tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. (all the other pictures taken at this time).

2004-Current: Various minor changes, but not too many During this time the car has been used daily from April to October, then put up in garage storage during the winter. It has been out to Minnesota and back three times, down to the annual East Coast 510 meet in West Virginia four times, and out to Michigan this past spring for a wedding."

I just love having access to this kind of history. Most of my cars are such a mystery. Pics form Chapman's past!

And I took some vid of the gnarly sounding cam, but have a bad internet connection where I am so haven't been able to upload yet! More to come!

Nice I got the video to upload even with this slow connection! Chapman fired on a cold start with the first twist of the key. Like 42 degrees out there! I just love the idle, sounds like music!

Shaken the car!
