machowgn
Hello, I have a 72 521 pickup truck,L-16. I just won off of e-bay a rare 5-speed tranny from portugal that was in a sss bluebird. I was told by the owner that it was mated to an L-16 when pulled, It's the close ratio 5-speed. I thought it would be a great upgrade for my truck. But I'm wondering if there is a way to determine if I have the correct bellhousing to use with my trucks set-up? Does anyone know if it will directly bolt up, or will I need a different bellhousing? I know Datsun made several different types? Thanks in advance, Mike here in California. Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
If the trans. was bolted to a L motor it will bolt up. Use the truck throw out bearing & clutch slave cyl. I did a Z 5 speed swap in my 71 521 & di da writeup w/ pics...... http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=523 Youll prob. have to shorten the front section of the driveshaft & cut the tunnel back a bit to accept the new shifter location. datsunaholic
Not that rare- probably from a late 70s 160B SSS (basically either a Euro 610 or more likely a 4-cyl version of the 810), though non-OD 5-speeds were available then (the TRUE close-ratio), which aren't any help on a street vehicle since its top gear is 1:1 just like a 4-speed (except you have to shift more to get there). Or, it could just be a longtail dogleg. Quote Link to comment
