I fear a deliverance moment

I'm mounting a winch on the trailer is morning . I'll be at North thompson mostly today, but I have to haul the 320 and 312 back to my place as the Minister of Environment is coming to visit next week.

I've got a donor cab sitting here.

The floor's gone but if you're interested I could cut it off along the firewall and the back of the cab where it meets the floor.

I may even be able to get it to the Okanagan for n/c.

$100 for the cab.

I may even be tempted to let the extra doors go but the price would have the be right.

Let me know if you want pic's.

So my tired L16 needs to go. Blue smoke. I want to do a 5 speed swap at the same time. I can do the tranny mount mod.I have the following parts chassis... J13 69 521', 82 720 dIesel, 78 620(no drive shaft), endless 510 parts.I have a 78 l20b with 5 speed and EI dizzy out of a 620 king cab . Can i use a j series driveshaft or 510 shaft instead of the 2 peice 521/l16 shaft?

Your merlin, you can do anything, just conjure it up. Wish I knew the answer, I do know the longer the driveline, the bigger round it needs to be, at least with a V8. Is the 82 720 diesel a running driving truck?

. Nope just a bent frame and drivetrain with front and rear brakes and suspension.

:(Another diesel bites the dust, it's sad, :( Does the engine have a inline injection pump(carb looking thing on the intake), or a VE type, where the throddle cable goes to the injection pump itself on the pass. side?

so i've been doing the same swap L20b/ 5 speed as Jon521, and tonight the truck tried to kill me for it. got the tranny in place and was trying to mate it up with the engine. With all the fighting and jacking i'd done to get the tranny in, i didn't realize the front axle stands weren't on all fours and the whole truck shifted sideways and fell of them.

things I've learnwed so far.

1. drop the center link... you can just onbolt the passenger side mount... 17 mm the front bolt is a nut and bolt, the rear one is a bolt into a welded on nut. fuck i torqued on that sucker before i put a flashlight on it.

2. put the passenger side engine mount in first and bolt up. the drivers side will need some massaging to align. i ended up losening both bolts on the frame , removing the rear one completely swinging the mount up and forward, putting the engine side nut on, and then tapping the engine mount back into place and redoing the frame side mount bolts.

3. get youself an old yoke you can wire into the output shaft. 35 year old tranny fluid is nasty shit, filling your tranny while installed sucks buttlice.

4. you use 521 mounts, oil pan and pick up... its close to the 620, but that 3/4 inches of extra clearance is needed.

5 im curious to hear if anyone did it different but the only way i could get everything in was to install the tranny, then the engine, then the driveshaft and modded mounts

6 the modded tranny mount is about 2 inches shorter front to back and a 1 inch down drop. i will make these and the 620 center isolator adapter plate if anyone wants one.

7. the 620 front shaft used with the 70 to 72 back shaft is almost a bolt in 2 piece driveshaft... you need to make a 620 center isolator adapter plate that moves the isolator collar just over an inch forward. the bolt spacing on the 521 and 620 collars are different.. the 620 is wider by about an inch.

I guess I didn't know you were doing this, I have had to do everything 1-4, I drop the center link on every engine change anymore. I also have the 620 mounts in my 521 work truck, what a freaking bitch that was to get them in there. On my LZ23/work truck thread I discribed the 620 oilpan issue, as I grabbed the wrong pan, it's a surprize when you get it all in and the center link won't fit, isn't it. I just put 5 speed short shafts I put together in my trucks anymore, fact is I just use 720 frames for the most part anymore, it's just easier. You can install the engine/tranny combo together, but the fan should be removed, and one needs to take there time, otherwise stuff can get bent/dented. I find that if the tranny doesn't need to be removed, leave it in there, it's less frustrating, but you were doing a conversion, so it had to come out. I don't mess with the drivelines normally, I leave the back half stock with the stock carrier mounts, and have the front piece made, period. Keep this in mind for the future, if you have to remove your tranny, I suspect you used a 5 speed longshaft, unless you used one of them dogleg pieces of shit, and you can't seem to get it out of the truck, move the tranny as far back as you can, and remove the clutch cover/disc from the flywheel, then the tranny should drop out easily. To get it back in there reverse the order, I know it is a bitch to get the clutch cover and disc into position with the tranny so close, but it is easier than moving the engine.
