Feng Shui (The 510 Experiment) (Pics fixed through page 7..)

Lookin' good.

Is there enough room around that pipe for it to expand when it gets hot? I had that problem on my Mustang... sort of. When I first got it back from the exhaust shop, It rattled until it got hot, at which point it just rubbed against the frame rail.

There's about 1/4" between the CV flange and tube. About 3/8" between floor and tube. I should have it locked down pretty good with the hangers I bought. My biggest concern is the v bands sealing after I weld them...

Josh, I'm not sure if you have seen this or not. Here is a oic under the original BRE #46, showing how they removed the mustache bar and plate mounted the diff. Maybe something like this could work for you?

Thanks for the pic. I didn't know they solid mounted them. I fired off an email to Troy Ermish to see if he solid mounts and if so how much vibration is there. From my reading the z car guys say to avoid it at all costs.

I'll take a look tomorrow and start formulating a couple different plans.

Wow, the pics deceived me!  It didn't look like you had that much clearance.  Carry on!

Thanks guys!

Had to round up materials today so didn't get a lot done. Tomorrow I'll hit it early in the am.

Fit the rear section some more and finally got a hanger in place!!! Weld looks like crap but oh well....

I could but honestly since it seems you can take apart the stock sti cv's (I couldn't on mine) then I would consider going this route:

If you have a complete set of sti axles I could surely get you a price.

I guess the only reason they used the rubber bushings was to isolate any vibrations from the rear diff.....  Solid mounting it should give better handling and responsiveness.  How about, you try it out, and report back if you notice extra vibrations, and then start selling sets for the swap!!

That was my plan but I've never gotten it together....

Looks like the hood latch will clear the intercooler. The safety latch has to go though. That's OK because it sucks anyways. I'll build a much more reliable one later...

I got the rear exhaust tacked together and the muffler mounted.

Here's what I have left in radiused tubing.... Just gotta connect the front section to the cross member tube... There's one little section of pipe I'm not too happy about but I'm gonna let it slide. Also muffler is slighty angled. I'll fix that before weld out.

All done besides weld out.

Most of my work is done with a grinder :)

Exhaust is all mocked up. Just gotta install 2 more hangers.

I think at max the exhaust is 1" below the rockers. About 1/4" below tranny mount and rear cross member....

Had to notch the body a little. I'll fix this later...

Didn't get a whole lot done today. Cleaned up the shop and bought a drill press. Also Jordan (kayakdude07) stopped by with his dad. Always nice chatting with other 510 guys. Not many people have seen my wip :)

I did put the last two hangers on though :) I drilled and tapped a piece of bar and welded it to the floor pan so the screws stay out of the passenger compartment. Tomorrow I'll pull the whole exhaust out and weld it up.

Started on the diff mount. Used some 1/2" 6061. Made a spacer block but had to set the mount plate in place so I could get the spacer thickness. I'll machine it to size tomorrow.

I plan on making steel backing plates that will be tapped for 10mm hardware. These plates will be welded to the rear cross brace.
