Hybrid CV axle project (still only halfway through :( )

start with a 280ZXT CV axle straight from the junkyard

222181_214993545179820_100000075273173_881107_7209488_n.jpg

cut the boot off the flange side

216030_214993588513149_100000075273173_881108_4417955_n.jpg

and the other side too to make things easier

206309_214993641846477_100000075273173_881109_2680248_n.jpg

cut the lower part of the case off (is actually part of the boot, which is REALLY stupid, since you're not really supposed to take the CV's off)

222072_214993705179804_100000075273173_881110_88856_n.jpg

215402_214993761846465_100000075273173_881111_7819498_n.jpg

then the diff side cover should come right out

206246_214993821846459_100000075273173_881113_1361079_n.jpg

clean up the axles, and either press the tripod bearings off or cut the peens down and hammer them off like a bawse (what I did lawl)

then take the other axles apart (in my case are J30 5-bolt axles), much simpler since they have a better design than 280ZXT axles lol

now have a mock up piccer shoot :V

I hate this car

found out a couple days ago my header was cracked (whole exhaust would rotate, while being bolted tight at the flange)

got around to fixing it today, just glad it didn't crack all the way through and fuck up my whole exhaust

224113_216869114992263_100000075273173_894726_1273176_n.jpg

first try was to ghetto fix it while in the car, and save my "new" header for redoing the exhaust on my other Z (that's going to replace this one)

that didn't work at all, so I took it out

good shit

216209_216869231658918_100000075273173_894729_5581910_n.jpg

this is what I had to do to just to take the damn thing out (or was that just vent some anger? lawl)

new one fits MUCH better! guess that's what happens when you install a header actually made for your car???

still working on it though, fitting the flange on it, and grinding/filling those fittings since I don't have EGR or use an 02 sensor

then I gotta paint it...

OH and this wonderful thing happened when I was working on this piece of shit

can't wait to start work on my other shell.

I was reading your thread and you mentioned you needed a rear end out of a 290zx turbo, i asume you mean the arms and stuff not the diff since you have the j30 diff, so why do you want the turbo rear end ? is it different than the non turbo, i know the diffs hare geared different but every thing else is the same i thought?

I WANTED the 280ZX rear control arms, ended up going with the '84 Maxima arms instead (same thing)

only difference is the CV axle companion flanges, since I'm going with the Z32 VLSD and CV axles

car list of parts going into my subframe:

'79 280ZX--crossmember

'84 Maxima--control arms

'88 SE V6 200SX--diff case

Z32 300ZX--VLSD

'97 J30--inner CV's

'83 280ZXT--outer CV's/axles

'86 300ZXT--brake calipers

if this isn't a hybrid as fuck subframe, idk wtf is lol

YAY! finally!

I think I'm just going to clean it up and put it on, but only after I take my spacers off and put longer wheel studs, don't want do do a stupid pull to fit spaced out wheels :/

plan is to get some Negative Camber Roll Center Adjusters, which push the bottom of the struts out 1-1.25" and giveme like 2.5" more camber, so it'll fill the fender out better, but shouldn't need a pull (especially with the 195's I'm planning on getting soon) :D
