jeepinjakear15
After searching and wondering what to do about my rear tail lights I came up with a solution. My original tail lights did not come with lenses and i like LEDs anyway, I thought about building a "farmer style" bumper and putting lights in it but that would be out of place. I did not want to cut the original tail light buckets off because I didn't want to do anything that the next guy could convert back to stock. so this is what I came up with.....\ I drove down to western Peterbilt and bought some brackets and maxima oval 60 LED units http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4422958796_410b7b9e4b.jpg bought the bracket for $4.90 and started to modify I cut the top edge off like this http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4060/4422192783_40d222537b.jpg I also had to drill the holes in the bracket a tad bigger Then I went and unbolted the light assembly http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4422192883_14f8f32a17.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/4422192691_9a60e4b9fc.jpg after I got the assembly out of there i tried out the piece the bolts are three inch so they will go through all the way to the other side. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2696/4422958518_809644e557.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2738/4422958436_cf1e8beb38.jpg had to drill some extra holes in the original bucket but you wont really be able to see them and it doesn't interfere with putting it back to stock I figured better than welding. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4024/4422193101_c783b18d44.jpg you can see the two extra hole on the outer edges of the inside of the bucket. now to see how the light will fit looks good! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2748/4422958770_eefa16c627.jpg lighting up! http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4422193063_21ba09461c.jpg side by side comparison http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4069/4422958590_5099ed9505.jpg both in place http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/4422958470_f5c7c7fb11.jpg they aren"t set in stone yet but theres lots of adjustment with the bigger holes i drilled. I hope this helps somebody I thing its a great solution and a brighter one! The LEDS were 25 dollars a piece so providing you have Bolts, tools, paint, etc at home its about a $60 dollar upgrade! SurgeL320
This mod is so good i MUST do it to my truck. Did the brackets come with the lights together as one piece and was the wiring pretty easy ? Do they work as turm signals also or is that separate? Quote Link to comment
SurgeL320
I did my own lights after seeing your post . check it out this page of my build thread. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/12007-surge-l320-progress/page__st__60__gopid__300043entry300043 .
