Electronic dist. on a 320..possible?

Recommended Posts

I saw a 79 310 @ the yard Sat. & noticed it had a matchbox dist. that looked similar to the stock unit on my 65 l 320 [minus the matchbox] I believe the 310 motor was a A 14 or 15 which is very similar to the E-1 in my 65. My question is has anybody done or heard of a way to drop in a matchbox dist. in a 320 or even mix & match the parts to make it work? How cool would it be to ditch the points in a 320?? Jeff, Holic any ideas??

i had an electronic a series distributor running my FJ for the longest time. as a matter of fact i still have it. if you are interested in it let me know. You would however need to switch out the drive gear as I had to to make it work with the FJ.

Cook do you know if the FJ block is similar to the E 1 block? Id like to see a pic of it. Paul, on yours are the motor mounts custom or are they the same as the E 1 mounts? Im just comparing how similar the E J & A motors are & to see what will & wont swap over, thanks.

I bought a pertronix for my u20 powered roadster back in the day. It seems if they have one for that engine they should have one for all nissan/datsun engines. I think Tana has an E engine I will check and see if the dissy looks close.

Thanks guys. Id really like to see how the drive gear looks on the J engine & FJ motors...that'll be the one thing that will determine if it can be done. Id also have to swap out the generator to an alternator to make it positive ground.
