720Joe
I don't see any specifically for a 720. Are these the ones I should be getting? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-NISSAN-BRASS-SHIFTER-BUSHINGS-240Z-260Z-280Z-E_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem19b2128c71QQitemZ110361742449QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Remove or take a good look at your shifter. If it looks like the top one it should work. The bottom one is a shifter used after '80 on most vehicles. I don't know what to say about the ad saying '83. Top will work, bottom won't. 1 Quote Link to comment
720Joe
Shit, mine is like the bottom one =/ What now? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The whole idea of the new design is to have that much larger plastic surface to reduce wear. Well that and the fulcrum point is raised so it has a shorter throw. Sure it's worn out? Excessive slop? The two plastic parts you want are Nissan # 32855 Q0100 about $3 each. The small plastic 'cup at the very bottom is Nissan # 32861 H7301 and are $1.50 well, in 2002 they were. Ask for '83 and up. 1 Quote Link to comment
72240z
Ya Mikes got it. You can make a brass one yourself too if you don't want the plastic. I forget the part number but the male fits you just turn down the disk area. Quote Link to comment
720Joe
While in gear I have about 1.5" of travel in the shifter before it even moves the shifter 'rod', if you will. I knew this site would be of amazing help. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Forward and back slop is (I think) the plastic cup at the bottom. Side to side can either the cup the side ones or a combination of both. Quote Link to comment
720Joe
I don't know, but I can see the bushing at the pivot point moving, so I know it's got play. I plan on replacing them both, but it migh tjust be a waste since the new trans will be going in. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What and why are you replacing it? What length is your tranny, 26" or 31.5" and is it a regular or King Cab 720? Quote Link to comment
720Joe
It's a regular cab. I'm replacing it because second gear grinds and I see a hb trans holding up much better behind a dohc. I don't know the length of the trans, but I can attempt to measure it tomorrow... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If you are saying that you are replacing it with a Hardbody 5 spd, I can tell you that it is longer than the one you have by a couple of inches. The 720s used two different lengths. Even if you have the longest one it will be shorter than the Hardbody. Quote Link to comment
720Joe
That's fine, I'm not expecting it to be drop in, I'm prepared to shorten a driveshaft. The main part I'm worried about is the transmission crossmember fitting, or atleast how well it will/won't. I have everything from the hb. I'm hoping between the two something will work. and yes, a hb trans is going in, backing a dohc. Quote Link to comment

Is the small plastic cup (lever ball bushing) the same for both shift levers? I need one for the top shift lever. Quote Link to comment
