The CA front of the tranny is small enough to almost fit into the front of the L series. I tried it... the bump for the starter is in the way but it's a lot closer than you would think.

An L series 5 speed front case will bolt on to it. You will have to measure the diameter of the counter shaft bearing on the CA tranny. When looking from the front, the counter bearing is the one to the bottom. If it is 62mm, remove it with a simple gear puller and tap on a new 56mm bearing from any 620 or 280z/zx. Again, if it does have the 62mm bearing it will also have a 16mm diameter 1st/2nd shift fork. The L case will only have a 14mm hole so this can easily be drilled out to 5/8" or what ever is just barely bigger than 16mm so it will slip in. Sounds like a lot of work but really nothing. The 1st/2nd shift rod is the top one of the three.

A 4 speed case can be used for this, however, the reverse light switch is abiut an inch too far back in the case. Just re-drill a new one and tap it for the switch and plug the old one with threaded stock. A bit more work. If you look on the case you will see a raised boss in these two positions. I think the 5 and the 4 speed case is the same casting, they just drill and tap the front boss for a 5 spd. and the rear one for the 4 spd.

As for gearing, the CA tranny has a very low first gear, the same as the '79 620 with 3.5 (something)
