72 327
Was wandering on the net and found this. Pretty cool Idea for small projects and it's cheap. From a VW guy a complete how to. Soad Blaster 6 Quote Link to comment
LAYEDOUTB2K
That is so awesome. Thanks for the link, I'm probably going to head to Home Depot after work now. I wonder what other material that media works on without damaging the finish. I have a bunch of overspray on a plastic bed liner that I may give it a try on. Quote Link to comment

johny5
that also works good for syphing fuel Quote Link to comment
LAYEDOUTB2K
I tried it tonight bu Lowes only had 3/8s ID tubing so it didn't work too well. There wasn't a clear enough opeing so it was clogging up. I'm going to try another place to get some tubing and report tomorrow evening on my result with pics hopefully. Quote Link to comment

rzrdisco
Be sure if you plan on painting the surface after soda blasting you thoroughly clean the surface because the baking soda will prevent any adhesion. Quote Link to comment
rzrdisco
I know a lot of people enjoy pictures... so here's some of the soda blasting I did. Though, I didn't use this DIY soda blaster. Instead I put baking soda in my sand blast and worked great. As you can see, it didn't take off the cad plating unlike normal media. And it sure did clean up that grimy, thick coating of oil residue on the inside of the timing cover. A lot cheaper than hot tanking it, too! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What about anything else that's 'gritty'? Corn meal maybe. Build a small cabinet and collect and reuse it. Quote Link to comment
rzrdisco
What about anything else that's 'gritty'? Corn meal maybe. Build a small cabinet and collect and reuse it. Not sure of the extent of the DIY blaster, but in my sand blaster I run playground sand from Home Depot (5.xx per bag, 50lbs) and it's pretty coarse. It'll take rust off and give a heavier blasted texture. Really cheap for it's quantity so I haven't put effort into collecting the sand. On another note, the baking soda groups itself really easy and often do I find myself shaking my hopper to keep the suction going. A home made auger type device or agitator in the hopper would really help with keeping the flow steady. Quote Link to comment
OpelWagenGT
Thanks for sharing man! I love DIYs like this and I think that my carb could use it. Quote Link to comment
