Nice140Y
Hi everyone, I am swapping out my auto trans and putting in a 5 speed dogleg in my 69 510. I think I have everything covered, but would like to hear from you guys if anyone has a checklist i could use to make sure i don't run into any delays. It would be greatly appreciated. I have already gotten some advice from some of you. (DatzenMike in particular) however I do not have all of the conversations saved (sorry Mike) so I want to see if a checklist exists so I can make sure I did not miss anything. Thank you. zerow
I did this swap in reverse. I swapped a 5 speed for an Auto, so here's what I pulled off the donor car: Clutch Pedal with all linkages and hardware Clutch Master Cylinder Plumbing from the Clutch Master Cylinder to the Clutch Slave Cylinder Clutch Slave Cylinder 5 Speed Transmission (obviously)(if collecting from J/Y, take the rear crossmember and driveshaft. Extras cannot hurt) Shifter assembly with bushings Flywheel Pressure Plate While you are collecting parts, don't forget these items: New Rear Main Seal (do you want to take all this apart again...didn't think so...) Clutch Alignment tool And, don't forget to take off the little spacer at the end of the crankshaft to help align the original flexplate. The new flywheel won't go on correctly if it is still there. I am sure others will chime in with something I forgot, but this will get you started. Good Luck! Quote Link to comment

Flywheel and Pressure Plate. The Automatic comes with a Flex Plate, does the same concept as the flywheel (both have the teeth to help the starter engage and turn over motor), but the flexplate is basically thick sheet metal with the teeth welded to it. The Flywheel has more mass, for moving engine power through the clutch to the transmission. Quote Link to comment
dimedriver
Don't forget the pilot bushing. It goes in the end of the crank and should cost around $2. I would not be surprised if it was already there. If you want to replace it take a socket that just fits in the bushing and does not have a hole threw it. Wrap it with tape so it can seal with the bushing. Fill the hole that the bushing is in with grease. Put your taped up socket in there and hit it with a hammer. The grease will push the bushing out as you hammer the socket into the bushing. -Dime Quote Link to comment
