datzenmike
The engine bolt pattern is way different. The VG used the 'newer' FS5W71'C' as opposed to the L series FS5W71'B'. The C is larger to hold larger stronger gears. The C was also used on the KA E (but not DE) motors which would have the L bolt pattern but would be 'clocked' about 11 degrees toward the driver's side. If you wanted the VG tranny strength, maybe get a FS5W71C from a KA24 hard body and run it on your L with the tranny tilted to the pass side. Bend the shifter and make new tranny mount to adjust for this. Don't know about the length or the drive shaft spline fit. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Don't know about the length or the drive shaft spline fit. FWIW, the spline count is the same on almost every 4cyl trans (except some of the A-series). Quote Link to comment
SHADY280
there is a kit you can buy now to adapt the 2 together allowing a newer tranny. go to hybridz.org for a complete writeup, has z32 in the title i believe. part of the kit is moving the shifter, but its geared towards the z cars, but itll work on any l series.
