hey mike im sure we could work out some sort of trade, im assuming thats you on the van isle site? if so what year is the 620 dash? and is the L24E distributor compatable with a L-24 in a 240z? and i would love to get my hands on another matchbox L20b distributor, one of mine is held together with silicon. thanks Grahem

Actually I rarely go to VIDE. I'm here more often that not.

The dash is from a '78 and although the gauges are crap, the black vinyl padded dash is un-cracked mint condition. Anything you see on it is a spider web.

The L24E dizzy is actually from an '84 Maxima wagon so the last year that an L dizzy was ever used. The E12-93 igniter module on it has two output sets of wires for use with the later 280zx EFI and needs the ECU to set the timing. I have a regular 12-80 matchbox igniter with single 2 wire output that will fit right on to make it work. Here's a picture of the L24E matchbox dizzy:

Here's a picture of the second set of wires on lower right. If this module is used the engine timing will retard up to 20 degrees by 3,000 RPMs if used on a non ECU car.

I have a regular 12-80 EI module that I will install on it for use on a carb car:

I do have 4cyl EI dizzy. It's from a Z20E (picture above) and only needs the L series base where it bolts to the timing cover. I can post a bigger better picture if the Z20E dizzy if you need it.

I think I also have the gear reduction starter from the L24E or if not it's from a 280z.

Also an open R-200 with 4.11 from a CA18ET 200sx.

Well I built my 620 into this monster. It' a '78 with '82 720 2wd long bed frame modified to hold a 720 trans case and 'Yoda SAS front, F-150 rear springs all round, Z24 engine with '80 200sx 5spd. and power steering:

Installed a complete 720 wiring harness and dash, heater, 4X4 gauges, 200sx electric windows, variable wipers.

Just to show you what I could do with a truck.

But nothing like that for a car! No way. I've always wanted a Datsun car that would be the exact opposite of a truck and be easy to drive! I want to have fun in it. That means handling on the highway, with better suspension, tires and brakes. Maybe lower it ever so slightly. I have a set of 810/Maxima struts so will have to look into that. I have the old reliable truck L20B and a 4speed auto I could use, maybe. Always wanted to try that tranny. All I need are the pedals and I could convert to use my spare 280z 5spd. So lots of options but one thing for sure the rear end won't be welded and I won't be drifting it.

Awesome Mike, a 710! If I'm right, the stock 710 struts are great. They'll have the bigger spindle to handle better brake rotors. There should be some better production calipers that'd fit too. Handling, lets see, some Specialty springs up front, say 200 lbs or so, another leaf to the pack in the rear, lower the thing a touch, say an inch and a half or so and yummy! Just like a 'goon!

Keep talking, you're making me hot!!!!!

Hmmm. The truck springs are just a Datsun top spring re-arched to match the lower F-150 rear springs. Height and stiffness. So for a car, I just remove one or two leaves and put in a flatter stiffer one. Still kicking myself for not going for a ride in your goon....

ROAD TRIP! Well I'll have to wander down to Duncan and have a look. Maybe I should at least warn my wife first. Let's see, "Honey, remember you told me to clean out all those parts from the shed?, well..." ;)

Say Mike, I can come by again when the Ferry Corp has their winter special and we can go for lunch! You get to drive! If I drink too much beer while we chat I can crash on the couch while you tell my wife ;-)!

Seriously though, the suspension is just like a 'goons right! Front struts, rear leafs, so anything you can do to a 'goon would apply to the 710. I think a nice LZ2.2 if you wanna run a carb or a Z22e if you gotta have that FI would be awesome, the beast is a little heavier than a 'goon though I think ....

Just got back from seeing Grahem and his collection of Datsuns. So nice to talk face to face with another enthusiast. Thanks for you time Grahem. I could wander around your place for days!

Ahhh the 710! I took some shots of her and will show what I think is the worst part. The driver's side doors may have been clipped by a snow plow or equivalent and there is a small crease along the length but all damage is contained to the doors only. It was poorly repaired. Hey, even I could try this.

The front floors tell me the rest of the car should be pretty good. Here are the pass side and the driver's side floor pans.

Nice interior, white with buckets. Steering lock dismantled but all pieces are there. (pass floor)

Build 10/'73 so it should have the 4.11 rear end in it.

Badge missing. Does anyone know if this is a '74 grill???

Well it has all the wheel discs, rad was full of coolant, tires full, fired up on the first crank and idled. I think Grahem bought it from the original owner but never put it on the road, if I heard right. Odometer reads 23,100 miles so even if it has gone around, that's not bad for an L motor. I didn't check to see if it had original tires. :D

Here's another of Grahem's projects:
