ChadMK4
Finalizing the rear sub fitment: After the reshaping of the new frame members. And then after some Frame support and a cross member. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Started on the totally tubular towers on Sunday. They're just tacked in place and need to be put on better. But I was out of gas (Welding gas) and didn't want to waste the only free day I had to work on the truck. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Ok it's been a bit since I've updated this. Got the rear towers done a month ago or so. More parts showed up at my door step. I also got some 264 crower cams but didn't grab a picture before sending them with Scott. Got the front towers started. They're awful tall so there's gonna have to be some extra support for these. I will get to that next. Went to pull-a-part on a hunch from Howard about a Datsun being there. Was able to get a couple of extra fenders that were in pretty good shape, cowl, lower air dam and bumper. Went back the next weekend and got the whole dash setup. Had to get a new hoist so I could stop bugging Matt about using his. :) Got the structural support tacked in place until I can get the struts out to fully weld. Made some sway bar/ TC rod mounts. Also tacked in for the moment. Had to remove the factory TC rods to get the Megan Racing stuff to work, even after I went to the junk yard to find more 620 TC rods, spent several hours measuring, cutting and fitting the factory ones. More parts: I always wanted an old school four panel mirror. I've always hated driving around with just those two little brake lights under the tail gate so I bought a third tail light. Back to fabbing up the TC rods. I didn't see this part coming until I had already cut off the factory TC mounts. After some chopping, cussing, masterbating, and welding. Figured that since I was already messin with it I'd go ahead and stiff'n it up too. After some grinding and paint. Finally got the strut removed and was able to drill out the hole for camber adjust and finish all the welding and throw on some paint. I was suppose to do the passengers side tonight but started talking with Kathy and Scott and the next thing we knew it was 8:30. Oh well, tomorrow it is. I'm gonna do some more support for the front. But I still have to test fit the cab to see where everything is going to be so I can route my tubing. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Added support to the rear towers. Finally done with the frame and painted. Replaced the angle iron cross member with 1" black steel pipe. Got a liitle excited with the green paint. The wheels showed up today. I ordered Megan Streets instead of GodSpeeds. They should be here tomorrow or Friday. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
A preview of what the truck may look like: Yea, I know, I realized after the fact that I have the Coilovers on the wrong side when taking the pictures. Rolling Chassis Complete!! More as they come. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
The cab made it on with no real issues. Everything is lining up pretty good for not being an engineer and just winging it with some good ol' southern math and a cigar to think about it. Had to cut the inner fender almost all the way out for the strut towers. The truck seemed to get smaller as we put it on. Here's Scott standing next to it to give a reference. The wheels stick out a little bit. I still have to get these things done before it comes to an event. Install motor Modify tunnel Measure and order driveshaft Build tranny mount Install steering column Install Wilwood Pedals Install Radiator and Intercooler Make intercooler plumbing Make dash Install gauges Make Downpipe and Exhaust Reinstall Firewall Rebuild inner firewall Install flares General bodywork and primer Alignment Tuning.. ChadMK4
Ok, I havent posted anything in a bit so I figured I would put up some more stuff. Time to make the firewall and tunnel remembered that I needed to make the tranny mount and do the exhaust before finishing the firewall and tunnel. Added one more x-frame for support and was able to run the exhaust over that and within the frame rails to keep it from scraping. My brother came into town last weekend to help me with the cage since he's built several and I've built none. We drilled holes in the floor so we could drop the cage down and weld and paint w/o having to mess up any thing. The cage isn't 100% yet. We had to stop because we ran out of time and I need to see where the steering column is going to be and also the pedals before installing the dash bar. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Nothing real new. I've been working on this thing but the footings on the cage took quite a while because I wanted them to be solid but yet removable incase I ever need to remove the cab at some point. I completed the tunnel yesterday and today I have to pop the cab up one more time to finish off some welding on the bottom of the cage before I can install the dash bar and strut tower cage supports. Then its steering column, pedals, door bars, seats, fuel cell, truck bed, more cage in the bed, rad and intercooler support, piping, etc,. All in that order. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Ok, a few updates. Played around with MS paint or one of the programs on my laptop: I"ve got a long weekend to work on this thing and I've got a lot of stuff planned to do so hopefully I'll have some good updates to post on Monday. ChadMK4
Ok, More updates. I'm to tired to write about stuff. So just pictures. I'm going to install this as soon as I get back from our 5 day camping trip to Heat Stroke Island. Tempted to make it a push brake. There's not very much room next to the shifter. ChadMK4
A few updates. Can't explain a lot of them. Just pics of things as we SLOWLY wrap it up. I swear this thing is going to be the death of me due to stress!! We had to recut the intercooler for a second time. I know the bay looks like shart. Went with a new shifter that my brother made while he was here one weekend. 25mm cell casing. He also mounted the hand brake. And it looks like I'm gonna be able fit the original center console back in its spot. The gauges look good. Thanks Erin. Also, not pictured is Matts old seat that I acquired that will be installed as soon as I get brackets. Thanks Matt. There is a ton of little things that I'm having to tackle that I won't be posting pictures of like fuel lines, brake and clutch line, PS lines, battery relocating, ground wires, door bars, throttle pedal bracket and throttle plenum bracket. But I will try to remember to video the start up. Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
I got these on yesterday among some other stuff. Quote Link to comment
fisch
I am loving the wheelbarow! I was a little worried about how much the tires were going to stick out, but it looks HOT with those flares! Kudos, look forward to more! Quote Link to comment
ChadMK4
Ok thats all the updates up to now. Other than we started it last weekend and it cranked on the first try. Purred at 2k rpm because the Power FC has to be tuned and they run at 2k rpm as a default until tuned. Wrapping up the gauge cluster and gotta rebleed the brakes again. I think we got some crappy masters from Wilwood so they are sending more and then we should be on the road. Gotta go get the alignment and the tuning done and then we'll be track ready. CharlieBucket
i love the wheelbarrow too! Quote Link to comment
NSRz32
Looks good! I would have used higher quality parts in some areas on such a build, but it should be fun no less. Congrats on some serious fabrication. Quote Link to comment

budsaipan
Very nice! One question though? how did you exactly measure the subframe to make sure everything is aligned? I'm been thinking about doing this for a while and was wondering what tools and methods you used to align the front and rear subframe. Quote Link to comment
