The middle two have slightly higher O/Ds and lower 1sts (harder starts)

A lower number means a higher gear, or effort to turn so this can be confusing. Lower is higher. Thus a lower first will be a harder take off gear.

I usually say 'lower gear, higher numerically' to explain but was tired last night. If there is a propper way to say it that everyone accepts I'll try to use it.

It looks to me (I could be reading it wrong) that the 79+ zx have HIGHER (lower numerically) gears, 3.062="higher" gear than 3.321. so it seems TO ME that the middle two are geared "taller" throughout. Harder to get going (slower accel) but higher top speed

1981-83 z-cars have a lower geared rearend so they upped the ratios in the tranny. :)
