How do you install a aftermarket temp guage? help?

The stock Datsun electric sender is under the thermostat as well. There are no ports in the upper housing. If the gauge is only reading cold or hot, then the sender is wrong or not working. Mine (or at least the ones that still work) do a slow climb up to "normal" operating temp, and read hot when the engine gets hot (like getting stuck in gridlock when it's 103 degrees outside). I had an aftermarket gauge, but it appears to have died- probably got a hole in the tube and let all the ether out.

 

 

I try to only use the cast iron impeller water pumps. The stamped-steel ones, while reducing weight and rotational mass, also appear to cause excessive cavitation that ruins the timing cover.
