I'm sittin' here feelin' kind of guilty

98% of the time I drive my Datsun like Grandma going to church but.......this thing is geared so low.......I can give it just a little bit of throttle and it will flat scoot from a dead stop.

I drive it to work every Wednesday and today on the way home I noticed a guy coming up behind me in an early '90s front wheel drive Olds Cutlass playing stoplight drag race each time a light turned green.

When he got up beside me he revved it a bit and I ignored him - until the light turned green. When it went green I put the throttle down about 1/2 way and flat walked off and left him.

We got to the next stop light and repeated the scenario.

Later, a guy in riced-out Pontiac Sunfire pulled up beside me and we ran a couple of stoplight races. Off the line I could eat his lunch but his extra gears would leave me in the long haul. Honestly, at just 60mph my poor little NAPZ sounds like a hive of really pissed off bumble bees inside an echo chamber.

I only drive the thing on Wednesdays and weekends and really I try not to dog it but sure is fun to jet away from a stoplight in a car that looks like it should be waiting for Great-Aunt Gertrude in the parking lot of the bingo hall.

Many years ago, on my way home from Los Angeles International Airport on Aviation Blvd. an idiot in his new VW Scirroco [quarter mile in 13 seconds so he felt invincible] floored his car at a light change. Big deal, a** hole!. Repeated at next light. Unfortunately for him, I knew the light timing. At the next light I floored the accelerator and left him a half block behind before I deliberately slowed down for the upcoming red light. I waved to him and left. I was driving my 1970 Buick Electra LTD with the 455 engine. Care to guess why the a**hole felt defeated? Horsepower beats Car and Driver BS everytime.
