FujiyamaMama
Where would you get a strut bar to fit a 72 510? Quote Link to comment

HRH
Eeeh, I disagree on that. I think the 510 could definitely use a strut bar. They are 40 year old chassis, they need all the stiffening they can get. BUT, develop a good relationship with your fabricator, or make one yourself. Max cost 50 bucks, plus a can of paint. datsun8
+1 Byron! I tried other places, that was the only one I could find, I think Byron explained why. Quote Link to comment
FujiyamaMama
I don't have a fab guy... and in my area I don't know who to trust. My brother's a jap-car mechanic and he's recommending I get one. But of course, I don't really want to drop too much on one. Quote Link to comment

Posts like this make me wonder whether you have any specific testing, or technical data to back up the statement. FujiyamaMama
Well to be honest the bar was never my idea, I mean my car needs a LOT on interior work any way! I would much rather spend the money on interior stuff! Quote Link to comment

datsun8
hrh, based on the what the 510 in your sig is doin', I'd be recommendin' a strut bar if I were you, too. Quote Link to comment
Jesse C.
Unless you are doing some serious auto crossing or road racing, the strut bar is nothing more than decoration. I ran without one for years with no problems. But, if you want to look cool.... Quote Link to comment

DISLEXICDIME
screw the strut bar if your brakes are stock i would suggest spending that money on a brake up grade! the stock brakes = FAIL i drive the shit out of my dime and if it was not for my brake and suspension up grades me and my car would be dead by now ! FujiyamaMama
They're not stock. Quote Link to comment
hang_510
And maybe I do wanna look cool... -.- isnt that why youre in a 510? look into stich welding the seams if you want to do something for a little stiffness up front. Quote Link to comment

The stress on the chassis will be far greater on the track than on the dirt. Quote Link to comment

Read this: http://the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=12424 a You don't need testing to know a datsun pushed properly flexes and the a strut bar will help with it. For a street car I personally don't think one is needed but we could say that for many things we do. On the track they flex, I don't care what anyway says, I've seen it. Quote Link to comment
Docsis510
how about when your not running a sway bar would the strut bar help??? or are they 2 separate things? Quote Link to comment
ichorid
sway bars make a huge difference. Strut bars have been discussed a bunch on the510realm, and popular opinion seems to repeat, "dont really need it" Quote Link to comment
heirfaus
You don't need testing to know a datsun pushed properly flexes You do know that cars are built on 100% math and science and deciding what improvements need to be made is 100% math and science. But hey, who needs numbers and accurate testing.... On the track they flex, I don't care what anyway says, I've seen it. I'm very curious how you know this. What particularly warrants a strut bar on a 510? If you know something others don't, please do tell, because I have a real carbon fiber strut bar in my garage I haven't put on, but if you can give one example that is credible I will think about using that 300 dollar paper weight. Also judging from the stuff HRH has said on his web page I would suspect things he says anyway.... how about when your not running a sway bar would the strut bar help??? or are they 2 separate things? Yes, two different things. The strut bar keeps the suspension geometry accurate on cars that flex too much and the sway bars help to keep the car flat in the corners. :) Edited September 3, 2009 by heirfaus Quote Link to comment
FujiyamaMama
Im serious. What is my car supposedly doing in a pic some where? Quote Link to comment
Duke
I have been planning on making a telescoping "strut bar" to see if a strut bar would actually make a difference. I have heard both opnions from people who know 510's. If I do end up doing some testing I will post my results for sure. Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
On civics, if you jack up the front corner, the rest of the car stays on the ground. On a 510, jack up the front corner and the whole front of the car lifts up. Thats good enough proof for me to put a strut bar on/or near, the bottom of my mod list. Quote Link to comment
