cheetah79857985
This is a 1977 620 series Datsun Pickup for sale for $2500.00. The body paint, brakes, tires, and shocks are 4 years old. 3 year old weber carboratur. The wiring under the hood, the coil, and spark plug cables are 2.5 years old. Fuel filter and spark plugs 1 year old. Odometer is at 300. It just recently rolled over and has probably rolled over once before. So at least 100k miles, maybe 200k. Things of note- There is start button under the dash that goes directly to the starter. When I first owned the truck the ignition would sometimes not start the truck, so I had the button installed to bypass this problem. This problem is rare. The start button does not work without a key, so, theft from this source is not an issue. There are three keys to this truck; one for the driver door, one for the passenger door, and one for the ignition. The rearview mirror is not the original and I do not have the original. Opportunities that can be worked on- The gas tank can not currently be filled. The over-pressure caused by a gas pump's automatic shutoff causes one of two things; more commonly, a small spurt of fuel sprays out of the line (less than a capful). Less common, a larger amount (my guess is 1-2 gallons) spills out. This problem is avoided by never filling the gas tank past 3/4 full, or 8 gallons if empty/near empty. Obviously an opportunity a car savvy person can enjoy fixing. The engine will “chug” and, infrequently die, while the car is stopped AND in gear. It does not do this while in neutral or park, nor does it happen while in motion. The running/tail lights are currently hotwired to the battery. There are two pull switches in the cab, one for each set of lights. It has been this way for a 3 years and hasn’t given me any problems. The second pull switch is in place of the cigarette lighter, as that never worked and I never needed it. The cab light and washer fluid does not work. The truck is registered and insured and I drive it regularly. datzenmike
Although a fine looking 620 I would expect a running problem free truck for $2,500. Fix the following: Multi key problem Get a stock rear view mirror Fix the poor idle/stall Get a proper ignition switch for starting Replace/fix the fuel tank problem Sort out the tail light problem Fix interior light Fix washer pump. cheetah79857985
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind as the sale (or lack thereof) progresses. EDIT-What would you suggest as a selling price with these issues? A top and bottom? Edited August 21, 2009 by cheetah79857985 Link to comment
datzenmike
Well, if it runs as well as it looks I wouldn't take less than $1K for it. It's really too bad it wasn't a '78 with front disc brakes, EI distributor, ball joint suspension/steering and internally regulated alternator. For all original in that good condition maybe $1,500 with good interior and dash to match. This would be the low side so someone who really wanted it bad would probably pay more. Got any interior shots? Link to comment
BEEBANI
food for thought; my '76 that had a great running ka24 engine swap, 280zx tranny, 4-wheel disc brakes, air bag suspension, ball joint front suspension, and a lot of other goodies only sold for $2300 after having on the market for over a year and a half. Just saying.:) Link to comment
cheetah79857985
There are six interior shots, starting with this one 20184552.jpg The last two are engine shots, the six before are interior. There are brakes in the front wheels, are you referring to a specific kind (as in, something other than disc style?). A brake booster is installed. Link to comment
datsunaholic
4 wheel brakes and a booster were standard equipment. Beebani had converted his to DISC brakes... originally it had 4-wheel DRUM brakes, which aren't as desireable. A '77 would be all drum. Price... The problem is, the list of problems it has are pretty severe. Even fixing EVERY issue listed wouldn't make it a $2500 truck. $1500 if you fixed ALL those issues, would still take a while to sell if it did. The fact that it's an automatic doesn't help UNLESS someone was actually LOOKING for an automatic. Automatics have become a rare, but unwanted, option. Link to comment
