Problems.... Solutions...

I've been thinking about this thread for a while. There have been a few things from working on my truck that have been a royal pain in my azz. So I'm wondering what part of fixing your rig has given you trouble, and what did you do to get through it. This thread may be useful for saving someone a headache later when running into the same issue. So give a title, post your problem, and your fix. Mine:

 620 bed bolts suck!

Problem:

I'm pulling a truck bed. Button head bolts with those stupid tabs!:mad:They were designed to catch the frame during tightening to eliminate the need for a wrench on the top side when assembled at the factory. Nearly impossible to keep from bending and spinning when putting the impact to them. I threw a fit for nearly an hour trying to wedge something into them to keep from spinning. Me and Joe threw everything at them from wrenches, vice grips, pry bars, breaker bars, impact guns, etc.

Fix

Finally I got out the grinder with the 4" cutting wheel (hi spd sander with a cut off disc would be better) and sliced the nut in half. Got out the air chisel, and split them suckers right off, and drove them out. Such a simple fix (since they're pretty much disposable anyway), I was embarrassed, but later had a good laugh at how hard I had previously tried to get them off.

I haven't figured it out but keep breaking my custom alternator brackets. I guess it's rejecting the transplanted GM alt. :) My machinist buddy is gonna look into it when I bring it to him. He made the last one. I think it's just too much vibration.

Since the Datsun pickup is a throwaway "econobox" you're supposed to get a new pickup...grrrr

Hey now, go easy. I love my little truck, even as rusty and tinny it may be, and as much of a pain in the arse it can be at times. It's a love/hate relationship. Seriously doesnt anyone have any real suggestions or tips for specific problem areas on Datsun repairs?
