Braden
i have a 77 620 and i have quite a bit of play in my steering wheel, i have to turn the wheel about 1/4 of a turn before my wheels move at all, how do i tighten it up? can i take some slop out of the gear box? i know there is something else i can replace as well, can i adjust my centerlink to remove some slop? any help would be great Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
First thing to check is your idler arm. 99% of the time it's worn and will cause a lot of play. Then check your tie-rod ends. Jack up the front and try to pry the link up with a pry bar, any movement at the ball and socket and they'll need replaced. After that, your probably good. You can adjust the box, but it's the last on the list of things to check/replace. Adjusting your centerlink will just change your toe settings and cause your tires to wear prematurely if not adjusted correctly. This has nothing to do with the 'tightness' of your steering. ggzilla
You can spot play in the steering linkage, including tie rod ends and idler arm. Just having someone turn the wheel each way while you watch underneath. If any part moves relative to another that's a bad part. Quote Link to comment
