OpelWagenGT
I aquired this car a few months ago. It was my neighbors car in high school and eventually he lost his license and let his life go down the drain. So the car sat in his back yard. He was eventually evicted from the house and his nephew moved in. The car was deemed abandoned and the new owners of the house said "if you can get it out of the yard you can have it". So that is how I came about having my first datto. And yes the title for the car is in my name :) Quote Link to comment

OpelWagenGT
cool car. you can tell that the guy who own it at one time was totally into the car. what are your plans? it already comes with a cool side draft carb. As far as plans this is what I have already done -dropped the fuel tank and replaced all rubber lines including the filler neck (because it was broken) -sanded and re-clear coated the shift knob -put a b210 steering wheel on it because the stock one was disintegrating -took all the bondo off the right rear fender flare -POR15 on all the rust and primed -started it up :) (that was exciting) -drained and removed the radiator for cleaning and testing -removed almost all the brake parts -Had a key made because the original one was lost and to my content it fits everything on the car :0 -bought a set of wheels and tires (from sixty nine dime) to get the thing moving -started painting the cragars, white centers with gold lips -ordered just about everything to get this car running and it's all scheduled to be here by August 1st Edited July 30, 2009 by OpelWagenGT Quote Link to comment
WagDatto
Any ideas where I can get a similar style flare? I like it... Wide as sin and aggressive... Just what I need! Quote Link to comment
OpelWagenGT
haha so the story behind those flares the ones in the front are legit fiberglass flares molded into the body but for the back ones... they pulled the stock fenders then welded two more fender width pieces of metal on and use a ton of bondo to mold it in Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
For FREE? A weber, flares and (rarest of all) two nice coupe seat with no rips? Congrats! Quote Link to comment

Curt_pnw
Glad you got a thread up for this thing now. So where'd you find the steering wheel, pullapart? You start it up recently? Can't wait to get back home and help put all the new parts on. Quote Link to comment
OpelWagenGT
yeah there was a b210 at the pull apart and the steering wheel goes right on the only problem is that the indicator return pins don't match so when I went back to the pull apart I got the turn signal assembly off the car too. DRIVEN
That's odd. I got my wheel off a '77 B210 and the pins were OK. Quote Link to comment
woodside4032
Nice way to aquire a new car Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
What exactly is going on with the strut isolators? They are supposed to be under the strut tower, not above it?!? :) 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
B210 under, B110 comes out the hole: But yes, those in the Opel1200 are put on wrong. I can imaging it stresses the body. Put them under the sheet metal so the load is distrubuted evenly, not just at the bolt points. Edited August 3, 2009 by ggzilla Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
D.I.Y. camber plates? Quote Link to comment

OpelWagenGT
haha yeah I'm keeping the flares I'm just going to have to re-do the bondo on the right rear fender. As far as the struts go the bolts have been welded onto the shock tower and yes they are diy camber plates. Quote Link to comment
OpelWagenGT
here are some photos of just the suspension and how the previous owner set it up. http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=41509&forum=1&post_id=266542#forumpost266542 Quote Link to comment
