The last 2 weeks...

Recommended Posts

have sucked complete ass.

I fell into my creek about a month ago while working on restoration and picked up HB Bacteria...Not sure what it is, but it sucks..

Three weeks ago I my beers started to taste off, figured it was the beer...

Then about 2 weeks ago my back started hurting and my stomach was hurting. The back pain got into my hips and and thighs and my stomach got worse. Went to Everett Clinic and they were all worried I had swine flu, tested me and said I was fine and sent me on my way...FUCK THEM.

The next day or so had me bed ridden, wracked with pain. I was downing tylenol like it was candy. Then the puking started, I've never seen nyquil colored fluid coming out of me, but the emergeny room guys took it in stride. Got a CT scan (fun ride...hope it doesn't cost more than Disneyland) and blood tests. They said it must be a virus as I'm otherwise healthy. Gave me some pills for the stomach pain and some Percocet for the back and leg pain. Turns out my body doesn't like Percocet, called the ER and they told me to stop taking it...6 hours later my body became one large cramp and I was back in the ER for more shots to kill the pain - the worst pain I've ever felt.

Finally on Tuesday my new clinic Cascade Valley was trying to figure out why I was still sick as every test they had done said I was healthy. Then the Dr. says, "Now why didn't the ER do an HB bacteria test?" So I gave a little more blood and went to work (I've only been able to work 3 days in the last 2 weeks.) On my way home the call came, test came back positive. 2 courses of antibiotics were what I needed. Picked them up that night, the next three days felt like the Battle of the Gut.

Finally was able to eat some food for the first time in weeks yesterday. Today I feel almost human again, back at work to top off my crappiest paycheck since starting here 3 years ago...

Thank Science for Antibiotics!

Thanks to my girl for putting up with my sick, pissed off and generally fucked up self for the last 2 weeks.

So if you have a creek in your yard, keep the fuck out of it...

That is all :)

The Animal planet Channel has a show called "Monsters Inside Me"

How people go swimming in Africa or go to misquto infested areas to come back with these nasty proplem of parasites inside them. sometimes years after.

The Doctors do the samething. Think its a flu, give Tylenol till finally they do further cks. Then find out its something more of a proplem.

Think there was a dead animal in the stream????????

This is why we quit swimming in our 2 ponds and got a pool. We used to swim in the ponds all the time, but after all the fish died in them, we quit with swimming in them.

The last time i swam in one was by accident. I learned just how close you can come to a pond with a lawn mower.

Glad to hear you are back on the upswing Steve. What sign are you? I don't know anything about astrology but it must be some kind of cosmic force kicking our butts or trying to get us to pay attention. I thought about starting a thread like this because my last whole month was so messed up, but I didn't want to sound like I was whining and moaning.

I cut the tip of my left index finger off on a table saw right after I got back from California. I went to the ER because I knew I nicked the bone and my tetanus shot was not current. They took X-rays, cleaned it up and put a couple stitches on it to keep what was left of it sealed up. I wrapped it up in masking tape after a couple of days and could still play my horn. It wasn't fun but gave me a chance to do a bunch of boring practicing. Working is not fun either.

I probably won't be able to play a guitar for months, I fucked it up. It looks like a finger but the new parts are having a really rough time figuring out how to be a finger again. I had this brilliant idea because I couldn't play the guitar anyway... at the follow up appointment with the hand specialist, I ask him about taking the pencil lead that got jammed into the tip of my right middle finger twelve years ago. He said if I wanted it out, he could do it. His scheduler called me later, saying they couldn't do it in an office visit, so I had to go through a three hour pre-op screening in order to go into the surgery at the VA hospital.

I had the surgery about ten days ago. It was a pretty sobering experience. I'm pretty positive I don't want to visit there again. At the last minute, when I met the actual surgeon and his student, I ask if they could take a nasty wood splinter out of my left middle finger too. Since I can't very well use the index finger I cut, having a splinter in the middle one, really compromised my dexterity. They said, no big deal. I had do do a lot of talking, to get out of having them give me sedatives, anesthetic and pain meds through an IV. The whole thing took about six hours and Vicki had to come get me because they wouldn't release me without someone to drive me home. My hands were still numb the next day from the kick butt local anesthetic. Glad I talked them out of all the other crap they wanted give me. If it was anything like the industrial strength local, I would have been wiped out.

The pencil lead took them about two minutes but the splinter was a bitch because it was so small, maybe five minutes. He wasn't even sure if he got it all. But, now after ten days, it is healing up really fast and I would know it if there was a piece left. In the long term, it will be great to have the pencil out. It had been hurting a lot when it was cold. It was starting to work it's way out, but it never could have come out on it's own. In time, my hands will be in much better shape than if I ignored this stuff (like I usually do). I looked pretty ridiculous for a few days with both middle fingers all bandaged up. It's probably going to take a year for the feeling to come back... if it does. Work has been a comedy of errors with three fingers on the DL.

The whole year has been freakin' bizarre. My Mom died and then my oldest, best friend died unexpectedly after a brief illness. A couple days ago our other friend died. Except for my brother nobody has known me longer or better than these guys. There was a thread a while back about guys losing their pets and how tough it is to lose that companionship. It's like that times ten. My heart has been pretty crushed.

I could go on, there is more, but I'm trying to keep positive and be glad I'm waking up every morning. I don't have to look too far to see people in worse shape than me... like you. I'm lucky that I have a coping mechanism. It's the twelve bar blues. I will play some blues for you tonight to send you some healing vibrations. Some really fukin' blue key like Db or something.

Everything's functioning perfect according to the bloodtests. The ER kept telling me I was perfectly healthy

Figbuck,

Thanks for the empathy...I feel your pain, this year has been a duesy.

A few years back I cut a tendon in my right ring finger. Dr's never did get it fixed after 2 surgeries. Not much finger picking these days, but I can still jam alright :D

...and I'm a Virgo if that helps :)

Damn Steve, I didn't read this because I thought it was a build thread up-date! :D Sorry to hear about all the pain and drama. Your body can only express itself in a finite number of ways when it is sick or injured. Drs. see hundreds and hundreds of simple cases of vomiting and apply Occam's Razor. "the simplest reason is usually the right reason" Usually Tylanol and rest and the body heals itself. It takes a truly good doctor to diagnose an obscure problem. Hopefully all of them involved will file this away and next time simply ask, have you fallen into a pond or creek recently? Then order a proper blood test.

So glad you're on the mend.

I'm pretty sure the HB group is heterotrophic bacteria which is just one of 2 kinds of bacteria. There are tons of that kind most of which live on and around us not causing any harm. They are the decomposing kind, can't make their own food so they eat dead things (usually).

What kind of hb got you is what I wonder. It really sounds bad, sorry to hear about this.

You can't really blame the doctors for always going the same rt (flu, virus etc) when 99% of the times that's what it is.

You should contact mystery diagnosis maybe they will do an ep about you :-).
