What did you do to your dime today?

Recommended Posts

When you say head saver shim, I have a L20B that I have to put together and I had to buy a shim kit of a certain thickness because of the head surface being tried up. These shims go between the cam tower and head. Just wondering if you had the same thing. Ok now I look at the pics I see what you have it's like the head gasket.

Yeah Edekalil, I have the one that looks like a head gasket (copper shim part number 21178SP). I've also heard of the cam tower shims, but I thought this one would be easier and somewhat quicker to install. I pretty much just gave a few coats on both sides of the shim with copper coat in a can and set it on the block. Then I put a brand new head gasket on top of it and basically reassembled everything.  B)

Trimmed some bolts and made some gaskets to make this Weber 32/36dgv adaptor work on the Goon.

WOW I got to pull out the cars and drive the 70 2 door! Haven't done that in a while. Unfortunately had to pull them in after I got some non ethanol gas in her. Enjoying the ride.

Yea the car has needed a good cleaning the whole time I've had it. Now that it is running with out shutting down I will get her out when it gets warmer and give them all a good cleaning.

Bought two really long wires to reroute the battery to the trunk, also ordered the front wheel bearings for the car.

bled the brakes on my project.  found some leaks.

PROTIP: bleed the brakes before you put the motor in, save yourself a headache and cramped hands.

Sitting here at work and on Svengoolie there was a Godzilla movie Son of Godzilla from 67 in color and at the beginning of it looking at the traffic scene there was a Bluebird and a 520 looking truck, wish I had gotten a pic to post.

Installed a steering box brace as well as a brake master cylinder brace, can't wait to see if there is a noticeable difference in steering and brake feel.  Also wired up the front side markers.

How long have you had it?

A couple months, but work has had me away more than I have been home

I asked cause I had my cars sit for a long time (started having seizures and could not drive until I was seizure free for 6 months. That went on for about 3 years) and the gas got funky and got some rust in the tanks. That has been a pain but I learned from it, but if it's only been a couple of months then you should be fine. When the gas gets old from sitting it will smell like varnish when you run it. At that point you should drain it and not use it because it can do damage to the motor. I use only no ethanol in all my old cars now and I keep them running so I don't have that issue any more.
