Derby Goon (pine wood that is)

So I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of my 8 year old son Miles' pinewood derby car that he raced back in April. When it came time to build the car, the choice was obvious. We designed templates on the computer, printed them out and started cutting. Not a lot of cuts for a wagon. We even laid out the white stripes in Photoshop to see if we liked them-my son's idea!

He decided early on that looks were more important than speed (chip off the old block) but he still placed first in his Wolf Den and about 6th overall including the veteran Webelos racers. We're both looking forward to next year!

And while we're at it  Miles wanted me to show everyone his 'box car'. His class decorated boxes to sit in while watching a movie on the second to last day of school. Needless to say we had fun with this one too. One vanity box and a trip to the dollar store. Sectioning cardboard is lots of fun! Great father son times. (he helps me with my real car too.)

Your wagon looks good.. Got more pics of her? I see you also exploited the natural paint break of the windowframe chrome in your paint work :) Love it!

Thanks guys, it was lots of fun! I figure I better enjoy these moments while I have them now and make an impression, carry on the car guy genes.

Thats what its all about. Spending time w/ the kiddo's & maiking a project together. I did the same thing earlier in the year w/ my 13 year old.

PCD: Love the metal flake and the flames. Yours would have stood out in the crowd. Ours was almost too subtle. Guess its from all that model building (nudge nudge BRE510 )

Welcome wag0n. Have you visited the goon thread? http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=5122 It will overwhelm you with wagons. My roof is actually a vinyl top. It was aging so I put in a Street Beat ragtop (cut it with an air nipper actually) and then had the vinyl top redone. Looks like yours had a factory vinyl at one time (by the looks of the trim pieces) Love the roof rack! That's the only thing I miss having the hole in the roof.

...yep, every single day it was the meeting place, It was almost depressing when one of our families would go on vacation. Don't forget riding our bikes or talking our moms into taking us to the hobby shop for a new project or supplies. But even back then you wanted a 510...
