volksmike
Well, after damn near a year... I started getting to work in the truck. First took off the bed to get a start on the rust issues with it. Got to love them hooks :) I will be leaving them on as they make putting the cargo net on so much better. I made a patch that is built just like the original metal was made, then I decided to weld up the seams in the bed anyway. Welcome the comments, as this will be my build thread. Quote Link to comment

volksmike
Finished up the welding and did the usual grinding that goes with it... Roughed up the metal for the fiberglass reinforced filler. I use it because it is waterproof and won't make new rust form on the bare seams. The front bulkhead was rusted out at the bottom. Cut out the old and added a new filler piece ready to go. Lots of surface rust on the bed, whole truck really. Edited May 24, 2009 by volksmike Quote Link to comment
doc future
looks good, keep on it Quote Link to comment
denveratsun
Great idea to fill the seams...in my opinion. I never could really get into the whole 2 piece side thing. It just looked patched together. Keep it up man! Quote Link to comment

volksmike
Finished the front bulkhead made some drain holes for the front. They are about twice the size of the originals. They should not plug up as baddly. Quote Link to comment

volksmike
Tack welded the rear seams on the driver side in prep for the fiberglass filler. No real need in welding solid, as the seams were strong. Just don't want them wiggling around under the filler. Another shot of the front bulkhead fully welded with drain slots. Quote Link to comment
volksmike
Got a lot done on the bed body work wise, decided to take it out and hose it off. Figured the best way to move it was the truck it came from... Well it has rained for the last 4 days and the area where the truck was parked turned to mud. So, I had to pull the truck out with my Chevy... I deff do not have a L-S-D, as the pass wheel was just a turnning.... Tire looked like a cinn powdered donut... Quote Link to comment
volksmike
sealed the bed after all the welding and rust repair. First coat of primer... might knock out the dents in the bed, but I propably will be putting more back in later anyway. gonna be a shop truck... Quote Link to comment
