Buzzin' noise coming from the Distributor

Hey Gang,

 

I'm getting this extremely annoying buzzing' noise coming from my distributor. It gets louder the more I drive, but it sounds horrible. The only time it fades is when I'm shifting into a gear.

 

Can anyone help me diagnose this??

Remove the distributor and turn the shaft by hand. If it is not smooth, you have found the problem.

 

It probably needs grease or a bushing replacement.

 

At worst, something is broken and hitting something. This can happen with 1974-up types when the advance plate ball bearings fall out. Usually it just messes up the dwell. But on a matchbox type (1978-up) it can get as bad as the inductor hitting the stator teeth.

Thanks. I worked on it and it looks like the problem was on the vacuum tube on the carb side. Thing was whistling like mad! I'll keep running the truck to see if it comes back again (knock on wood)!
