so a to the point story :

I had a week of work ... Plan in place to :

1 - get car ready for wiring

1.5 - Go fishing and drink beers with co-workers and have a relaxing time doing nothng...

2 - get car wired

3 - get car started

4 - get car tuned

5 - get wheel alignment and suspension setup.

6 - get modification plates / engineering finalised

7 - rego + driving around.

1 - wednesday + thursday -  the car had its body harness through the firewall but with no grommet. the original S13 one i was going to use was wrecked.  Also Tested everything on the car so it could have the engineering and safety certificate done while it was up there... clutch felt a smidge funny and the brakes were a bit average but it didnt mind me too much at this point. Dropped car off to tuner/wiring to begin on friday morning.

IMG_1211_zpsb82f4d50.jpg

1.5 - fri arvo - sun arvo - went fishing - got drunk - caught rocks - had an awesome weekend talking crap with some of my best buddies caught 3 fish all weekend.  Got sent a pic of the ECU panel on the firewall by the tuner. Was excited even more after seeing this.

2 - Monday  - first up... had to go find a grommet to do the main engine harness and the body harness. Went to junk yards and scrounged around for a few hours with a set of vernier calipers measuring diameters of grommets. Found one out of a toyota starlet. Cheap and easy to get (snip snip shh) . rock up to start wiring body loom while tuner/wiring man does the engine bits.  Get about all of body harness terminated and 90% of engine done.

3 - Tuesday morning - get to workshop to find everything is terminated and he is loading The base settings into the ECU.  This is the Bit where i am shitting myself .... big build long time coming lots of money and effort.. sleepless nights blah blah blah ... loaded base settings , cranked it and she started!!!!

Set the base timing, checked everything was ok ready to go onto the dyno !!

Heard a massive Clunk and shut her off only to find that the alternator pulley had shat the bush that was in between the pulley and the housing itself. No big issue jamie the tuner/wiring guy knocked up a piece out of Alloy round stock to get it going.

Got it installed, running, checked battery voltage etc...

Time for dyno !!!

It was on the dyno, sounded very healthy... Ended up running boost directly off an ECU output so at 17psi it had 324hp on 98 octane fuel.

Then the dramas came...

We threw some E85 in it to see what we could make power wise .

Between running with 98 and filling with E85 the fuel system developed an issue and wouldnt rev or keep a stable AFR . To play it safe the tuner stopped tuning straight away and told me to fix it up before he would go any further.

So Im at the point where im replacing 3 fuel pumps due to an air lock cooking the pumps, and also removing any e85 from the tank and going back to 98 for a while until i am used to it.

The car is fast - it got a quick drive around my tuners complex before going to e85... :) so much fun haha

So the things to fix/modilfy/improve list is as follows :

Replace fuel pumps

rebleed brake system to get some more pedal firmness and extra travel.

rebleed clutch system as the clutch takes up very very late.

remove eboost from ash tray, remove shift light and oil pressure from column as ECU contols these.

Fix speedo so it actually displays a speed.

Re index the torsion bars and get a wheel alignment and suspension setup.

touch up on the tune,

engineering,

cafety certificate

registration.

sorry have been working on it so have had no time to take some pics however some vids of startup and dyno time will be up soon enough.

also make a new handbrake cable to adapt datsun cable to the new diff.

Gotta go to my bro's place to get the TIG back, to weld up :

Exhaust - as when i converted to v band exhaust housing it screwed everything up

some fabbed bits for the front end

ok, heres the update to today :

Finished the front brake package :

R33 GTR rotors 324mm

S15 4 piston calipers

Braided brake lines

EBC Redstuff Brake pads

D22 hardbody master cylinder.

Used a set of brake adapter Brackets Designed for S13 spindles - and modified them to suit so i still had a steering arm.

Also had to machine the back of the hub, where the factory disk bolts to.

The disk had to had its centre enlarged to suit the hub, and also have the PCD redriled to suit the hub.

thanks all

Did you narrow that axle at all? Looking good

Nah i didnt ... the axle width gives the car another 20mm each side which definatley wont hurt...

The front wheels needed 25mm spacers thrown on in order to let the brake calipers clear the wheel (its very close) so its pretty much even on all corners

so in a cruel twist of fate :

The diff sounds like its got backlash issues , plus the centre is clicking really loudly, almost to the point where its grinding noises...  ( louder then any other truetrac ive ever heard)

either the truetrac is stuffed , or diff gears are bad in the rear end.

Its getting dropped to the diff shop monday to be looked at (Again)

The tailshaft that i had remade has been stuffed up - the machine shop hasnt allowed for suspension movement and are refusing that its their error..

Monday ill Take it to another shop in town here to get the end cut and rewelded.

its getting very tiresome and im really over it :(

It was a bad set of gears, then a poorly lubricated truetrack, then a bad pinion bearing.

So i had a brand new set of diff gears installed, on the re lubed tretrak and replaced the pinion bearing.

After this they put the wrong pinion flange on to suit my new tailshaft so i had to get that fixed.

this weekend will be a tidy up and we will be laughing.
