Hello: I have installed “new” main bearings on my A14 engine. When the main bearing bolts are tightened down, the crank will not turn which turns out to be the #4 cap. The bearing set I installed was at best, vintage, and appeared to have been re-packaged. And, there were more bearings with oil holes than the engine has which I hope I correctly assumed was not a big deal. On #4 when the cap is tightened the crank will not turn but conversely, it doesn’t make any impression on the plastigage. Ideas before I try a new set of bearings?
Also, online the Journal diameter online is listed as about 49 mm. Mine are closer to 65?Thanks-
The top bearing shells must have a hole to allow oil from the block to lubricate the crankshaft. It's very possible that the top and bottom bearing shells are identical so it doesn't matter if they are the same.
Try the #4 bearing shells in the #2 position see if the problem moves with it.
Measure all 5? main journals and see if they are all the same diameter. They should be.
Seems the bearings are suspect. Buy new ones.

Thanks. I am going to try switching positions and then buy new. My bearing diameters are all very close in the 65mm range
