  1. Check the routing of the throttle cable - no tight bends etc, Also disconnect the throttle cable at both ends and make sure it operates easily and smoothly. These cars are getting to the age where the cables will fray and break inside the casing, and bind.
  2. Pull the air filter lid and make sure the choke is fully open. Make sure your throttle blades are closed, if not, release tension from the throttle cable. Make sure your return spring is pulling the throttle closed, and has tension on it when throttle is off.
  3. All relative to the distributor position.
  4. I'll be the one to say do it. It will be an adventure you'll never forget, whatever happens along the way. But - Make it safe. Take good tyres and new brakes, fit them before you move it. And film it for youtube.
  5. Should be in this position at TDC, with plug #1 facing front of car per Mike's diagram
  6. If the engine has been apart and the oil pump drive f''''ed with, you will need to start setting it up from scratch.
  7. Haven't looked that closely at my kit, but I bought from a supplier here in Aus.
  8. Looks like a great example you have, those floors are nice - you've done well. Watching with interest!
  9. I found it only slightly dearer to buy a full kit too, so bought the full kit when mine went.
  10. Non-abrasive method would be to use vinegar or similar weak acid.
  11. The answer is always SideDrafts.
  12. Compression test is where I'd start.
  13. Thanks for that, I've done some digging locally, and buying the vacuum pump and carbs would basically cost what I can buy DCOEs for, possibly even more, but I'll see what I come across first!
  14. Thanks so much. I've been considering webers or ITBs, but this seems like an awesome budget and DIY option 🙂
  15. Currently running a 38DGV on a truck manifold, will build a manifold to suit. Sorry, I will move this discussion to an appropriate thread, or tack onto the bike carb thread.
