  1. Can someone tell me if this the oem carb for an 86 4x4? I didn't really see any obvious stampings to indicate that its a Hitachi or whatever it comes with from the factory.
  2. Makes sense, i have a new 180F thermostat that i spent at least $10 bucks on as i saw you advise in another post. Thanks again for the help
  3. @datzenmike Thank you Mike, I know you have covered this before. To clarify though the truck would only sound like an F-18 if the clutch was broken? It spins about 180 degrees with some resistance then 180 degrees or so with less resistance. It doesn't have the same resistance through the whole 360 degree rotation...not sure if that's a normal thing.
  4. Welp, the fan clutch feels crunchy at spots when i turn it by hand, like metal on metal rubbing... so i will be returning it because that can't be good. The Dayco part number is DP850, there not hard to find on other sites. Now I'm just confused about the fan clutch currently in my truck after reading other posts about "fan clutch noise". The fan clutch spins freely with some resistance like people are saying it should, but when i start the truck up the fan seems to be going full boar, sounds like an airplane and moves alot of air and the truck doesnt quite warm up all the way which leads me to believe it broken because it's moving so much air over the engine? Doesn't seem right to me. Also when driving the fan is very loud and it's all i can hear driving down the road. I guess i am asking should the truck sound like an airplane on start up and any rpm above idle when warm?...
  5. The Dayco water pump on Rock auto does indeed have the cast impeller. Below is a link to my google photos i took of the pump. https://photos.app.goo.gl/N4VVw9ML572mfAZD7
  6. @720_Jeff will do, ill be getting it this weekend
  7. I tried to look for a new old stock one on ebay, didnt even think of the dealer as id assume they dont stock parts for 80's cars anymore??? I went with the cast impeller one off RA, and bought the most quality thermostat i could as well. I figured may as well change that while i have the cooling system drained, trucks got 128k, who knows if its the original one or not. Thanks for the input guys.
  8. You're right, i didn't even notice that one at RA, thanks. Sourcing a japanese one doesn't seem very feasible?
  9. @datzenmike Thanks for the reply Mike. I will Definitely re torque the head bolts before i drive it down to the shop i work at to work on it some more. It currently has 128k on it, assuming its the original head gasket. A bit nervous to do so, do you think the head bolts will put up a fight when loosening them? id shit my pants if i broke one. Will do with the Rotella, other oils and antifreeze/diluted water. I immediately bought a Haynes manual when i got the truck a few months back. The truck came with an official Nissan "do-it-right" maintenance, tune up and repair manual. This manual only goes into so much detail about more basic up keep. Is the haynes one not a reliable source of information? id prefer to not go out and spend more money on another Manual.
  10. Im replacing the water pump on my 86 720 as the fan clutch is broken. I bought one off rock auto for $50. I did a little more digging on this site and am now second guessing my purchase due to the cheap impeller it came with. I found a cast impeller with curved fins on ebay for $135. https://www.ebay.com/itm/305743243893?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=305743243893&targetid=4581046493380272&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=603247657&mkgroupid=1239150647972013&rlsatarget=pla-4581046493380272&abcId=9316139&merchantid=51291&msclkid=79bd0b001bf212cbccff6c412f85a1e3 This is basically identical to the one i have ready to install. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254841326512?fits=Model%3A720|Make%3ANissan&_skw=nissan+720+waterpump&epid=1246185500&itmmeta=01JDBBT66JHY2WP53RFE90ZBCZ&hash=item3b55ba0bb0:g:jZkAAOSw7ZlgCpL~&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKn2wQb%2FveGqbm8jGOa1nhpcQaHemUbPEVllT7W7vUSw7ktTQZIItD1qKjFV8wSFUSt157HhDtJQLaoBuP5SjOsXhRNn0a3Ybj1C4XRVq3ZSJdIqEhfibZL5eCJQ%2FdXwtylLunONZMjOviZb8q4vJEkXwCOxgoC9GnhfIc17JiA5XGpH5HTBmDwDr2UMJWKQ8raE20QrxsYPoNz4xQKOzvNMNEosxmHLgLL9%2BThsPY3jjsPUChi3CGircBk0NTLylFtab5ECbtk1ceBoq8%2BByofCBjnqZz%2BXObpapdTGHWMD%2Fw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMruPo6-pk Should i send back the cheaper one and spend the extra money on the one in the first link mentioned above?....
  11. Hello all, just wanted to say thanks to all for the wealth of knowledge i have been able to geek out on since acquiring my 1986 720 4x4. I recently moved into a new house a few months back and introduced myself to my neighbors, one of which was generous enough to gift me his 720 only hours after meeting him. Had been sitting for about 10 years and still fired right up and he drove it to me about 50 feet. I haven't had much time to tinker with it but have drained all the old gas out of it and put fresh gas and did an oil change. Seems to be all original and he claimed his uncle bought it new locally here in Burien washington back in 86. I will be replacing all of the soft fuel lines, and both fuel filters for good measure. Along with changing transmission/transfer case and differential oils as well for the start of freshening her up. Heres a link of some pictures to show it off. Im very excited to slowly make it more road worthy! https://photos.app.goo.gl/YVJuo6STFEQa3cYR8 Any of the information i have been curious about has been in this forum and there's not a bunch of smart a** trolls here, its wonderful. -Dillon from Burien WA
