If you don't see resistor next to coil on that shelf next to coil,, (or hooked directly to coil) ,, maybe that caused your problem ,, as it might have burnt out your points.. You can field test your coil by running a wire directly from positive side of battery (with a jumper wire) to the + on the coil and tap it ,, it should fire at the distributor end if the wire is pulled out of the distributor cap and laid next to an engine ground .. OR hold positive to + and tap a separate ground wire to - side of coil.................. DON'T leave straight B+ hooked to coil very long though as it will heat up Always carry at least one set of NEW points in your car ,,,, The service manual i have in front of me says point gap is 0.020 in. I looked up the point set on rockauto and the points for your car should also be compatible wth these other vehicles ,, if that helps the counter guy find them easier. Aren't the OTR trucks something like 400-500 horsepower motors that haul tens of thousands of pounds every time they go anywhere??? And the service schedule is still something like 25,000 miles-500 hours ,, it seems a bit overkill for something that is about 100 horsepower hauling basically itself . Another thing ,, aren't the semi-truck engines set-up to run these from the factory,, thus making them more efficient than anything you could just "add on" ?? Take those as questions not arguments.
