  1. Yes, I used awooden wedge, although I know the tensioner popped out, because I stupidly moved stuff around and allowed it to. I got in too much of a hurry. By the time I got the oil pump on the right tooth, I was too eager to hear it run. How much damage have I done? I have another tensioner I can install.
  2. Sorry, I haven't replied in a while...the holidays... At any rate, I separated the cam sprocket from the cam, and yes, the cam does turn. However, the crank does not. I did notice that there is zero slack on both sides of the chain (with the cam sprocket on the cam). Do you think the tensioner got caught up on the crankshaft or oil slinger or something?

    Hate to let it go. Fine specimen. L20B needs engine work or replaced bcuz chain tensioner came out with engine running. Everything else is good. 4wd works flawlessly. A/C blows ice cold. New tires. New alternator. New EI distributor, new carburetor, new plugs and wires, new battery, someone with mechanical know how will have themselves a great truck. 173k miles. CA registration is in limbo due to smog. I was trying to get it ready to smog when engine got stuck due to my screwing up after replacing the head gasket, which was leaking from timing cover after I replaced the timing chain. Original. Classic in excellent condition for a 40 year old truck. Has tow package installed. Clean title.

  4. No. Correct gasket. If, by chance, it had a blocked oil passage, wouldn't it run more than a minute? If it is ruined, what would be options for a replacement engine that would bolt up to my manual 4 speed? It is a 4x4.
  5. Regarding my siezed l20b. Yes it has fresh oil in it. Ran really well for about 45 sec. to a minute and seized.

  6. It won't spin with all the plugs removed. It has fresh oil in it. It ran for 45 seconds to 1 minute (really well). Then made what sounded like a dry cylinder squeal, I immediately switched off the ignition. Attempted to restart it, and got the click sound of a dead battery. Battery is new and fully charged. Then, I attemped to spin it at the crank with a ratchet and no turning it there. So, I pulled all the plugs and tried again, forward and backward. No luck. She is stuck.
  7. My engine siezed after I changed the head gasket. Got it put back together, timed it, fired it up, it ran great for about a minute, then siezed. What did I mess up? Am I screwed? This an L20B.

  9. I have a 1980 Datsun 720 4x4 that came stock with the ei matchbox dizzy. I sent the dizzy to be rebuilt by the guys through rock auto. They returned it stating that it is un-rebuildable. I have a hot spark HIT4 dizzy, which I installed with the proper coil, new plugs and plug wires. I am getting spark to the dizzy, but no spark from dizzy to plugs. Do I need to install a gm hei remote ignition module to make it work? Please help, I have been trying to remedy this situation for over a year. Needless to say I am losing my patience.
