I have a 4 speed transmission that was pulled from a 1974 Datsun 620 pickup truck. I am getting rid of it because I just swapped in a 5 speed tranny from a '79, so I do not need this one anymore. It was working fine prior to its removal. No known problems. I have not restored it or opened it up. I did not inspect the internals. I can't make any guarantees, other than it worked fine for the few thousand miles I drove it. I bought the truck from a family of farmers in the midwest so I don't think it has a lot of use on it. But who knows. I believe it is an F4W71B transmission with a first gear ratio of 3.592, but I am not certain. It should mount to any L16/L18, or L20B engine. Make me any offer. I can ship for a price or we can arrange a local pickup. I am currently in the Pacific Northwest USA. It is just taking up room that I don't have space for.Ask for price

Thank you @datzenmike. Regarding the speedometer, the lowest number listed is 10mph. Does this make a difference? Here is a picture: To be clear, I drove for about 1000 miles with the "BCDD solenoid relay" (2523089924) unplugged, and the vehicle drove no differently than before. It idled fine and I observed nothing different. In fact I have it plugged back in now. Still no noticeable difference. Regarding the wiring to my aftermarket carburetor, there is nothing plugged in to it. Zero. No electrical whatsoever. Here are some photos of the wires: Photo 1: Photo 2: You can see how many of these wires are just hanging, disconnected. My carb has a manual choke attached, and that's it.

I have a 1974 Datsun 620 (manual transmission). Thanks to the wonderful guide that @datzenmike and others contributed to (link here: https://ratsun.net/topic/77853-alternator-upgrade-questions/ ), I was able to successfully upgrade my alternator to an internally regulated 35 amp alternator off a '79 620. It swapped in perfectly and I bypassed the old external voltage regulator system using the instructions in the above guide. I made sure to solder a few connections as Mike described to avoid power draw when the vehicle is off. But this got me thinking... ever since I bought this truck, the horn heater relay (I think that's what it's called) clicks frequently whenever I am driving. This has always been the case, even before I did the alternator swap. The relay I am talking about is behind the ash tray, inside the cab. The part number is: "25230-89924". Here is a picture: This thing clicks randomly, all the time, whenever I go anywhere. I have previously disconnected it, to see what would happen, and drove hundreds of miles. Nothing bad was observed. The vehicle worked flawlessly, the horn and heater still worked perfectly. I didn't observe any differences in the vehicle. --- It should be noted that the electric choke on my aftermarket carburetor is NOT hooked up and has never been hooked up. I have a manual choke hooked up only. You can see a photo of what my carb wiring looks like below: The question is: Is it ok to unplug the horn heater relay? Will it be a problem for me later on? What future functions do I "lose" by keeping it unplugged? Bonus questions: A: My truck always diesels when I turn off the key. I assume the anti diesling wiring is not connected to the anti-diesling solenoid properly? It would be nice if it worked, rather than putting it in 4th gear every time I park. It has always diesled ever since I bought the truck. B: Ever since I upgraded alternators, my "charge light" in the dash flickers when my truck diesels, whereas before, it went out as soon as I turned the key off. I assume this is the new normal and expected behavior?

So an update for future readers from Mike Klotz, the designer of this kit: He says you can use hubs from a Nissan D21 hardbody for years 1987-1997, but they need to be machined in the following way if you want to use them with stock, Datsun 620, 14 inch rims: He said for stock 14 inch rims, the nose of the '87-97 D21 hardbody hubs should be cut to 3.5 inches, or slightly less. He said the lug nuts have a conical seat so the factory rims are LUG centric and NOT HUB centric. The nose can be loose inside the center hole of the rim. He also provided the following resources: Video 1: Video 2: Additional resources: http://www.bluehandsvideo.com/truck-kit-install.html http://www.bluehandsvideo.com/hub-info.html http://www.bluehandsvideo.com/320520521620-disc-brake-kit.html

I bought an old school Datsun stero that I wish to install in my 1974 620. I dislike the current aftermarket stero that is installed now, so I bought an old Datsun Clarion stereo online. My problem is I can't figure out what kind of connection(s)/plug to get for the back. Anyone have any suggestions? The car stereo place said they had no idea what connector it used. Also, if anyone has a factory faceplate for a 620 stereo, I'll buy it from you.

Thank you Banzai. The one on my truck looks about the same to me as the eBay photo: -

I looked for a part number but didn't see any. Only the "D4A2-01 402" on the outside of the metal housing. I can look again but don't know where. The engine is an L18. -

Thanks Mike. I believe the current system on my '74 620 is all stock. The distributor part number is: D4A2-01 402. Here are some pictures below: I think I could just swap in the pertronix system as-is. Yes? This is the version 2 of the Pertronix system I found. It says compatible with a 1974 620 and OE Hitachi distributor: https://pertronixbrands.com/products/pertronix-91741-ignitor-ii-adaptive-dwell-control-hitachi-4-cyl-datsun#applications I would love to have a matchbox system but those are just getting hard to find, and even if I do, it may be in questionable quality (although I know they are very reliable). I looked at the Cardone link you gave. All or nearly all vendors said out of stock. @banzai510(hainz) Is my original Hitachi distributor a single point? Basically, will the petronix system work out of the box without modifications? -
So for future readers, "rear main seal" or "rear main", refers to the main (rear) crankshaft seal. If you are still confused, ask a mechanic or a very knowledgeable (not ignorant) employee at an autopart store like Napa.

I would like to convert my 1974 620 with an L18 to the matchbox electronic ingition setup. Where do I find a matchbox D4K8-08 in good condition? I am also very open to just converting to the Pertronix system, since Pertronix conversion kits are still manufactured and I have heard good things about them outside of the Ratsun community (they are kind of looked down upon here). It is a challenge trying to secure parts that you know are only going to get harder and harder to find. @distributorguy @ggzilla @Pacific coast Datsun -
I'm buying all the parts it says I need for the Mike Klotz Disc Brake conversion kit (now sold on Sin City Datsun's website). This kit is great because it works with stock 14 inch rims (unlike all the others I have seen). Everything is easy to find except for the "2 hubs from a disc equiped Datsun 620-720 (made from before 10/1985), 2WD only" Anyone know where I can buy these? They have been discontinued for a long time. Link to Disc Brake Conversion kit: https://www.sincitydatsuns.com/shop/p/product-4-9e76d-pr6ls-5tznn-n4da7

@datzenmike I'm going to swap in a 5 speed in my '74 620. When you say replace the "rear seal", are you referring to the main output shaft seal? I am on RockAuto's website right now but do not know what to buy. Multiple forum members have stated to replace this rear seal when I swap in the new tranny.
