  1. I've always wondered where all the datsuns are.. it would be sweet if there was a map that showed them. Somehow have datsun owners able to input there location. and yes building a datsun up in new England sucks.... alot of money spent on shipping.... seems like anything older than 20 years or so gets crushed around here.
  2. I know it's different for different states but in Mass if i were to insure my 521 as a classic I am told it can only be driven on sundays or to and from a repair shop or show.. not sure how much cops care about that but I have zero luck so I am just putting it on the road with normal insurance... and I use Hanover....
  3. Thanks G-daux, kind of what I thought... wish I knew before I assembled my motor I would have used that trick.... guess I will save the info for the next time.... Distributorguy how long before your runs on the salt flats?....
  4. No I am good with the carter it's brand new but thanks.. i know I to get the pressure down a little I've just heard mixed things about fuel pressure regulators... I've seen a few people reference the holly one I mentioned with Webers and they were happy with it.... I know I am running a bit rich and just wanted to sort a couple things out before I start rejetting....
  5. G-daux does that process/coating mess with any engine tolerances on the parts your coating?
  6. Oh ya and also what about fuel preassure... from things I read it ran a carter p4070 with no regulator... seems to be putting out about 6psi.... I think it needs to be around 3.... is anyone running for a regulator?... I was looking at a 1 to 4 psi holley regulator 12-804...
  7. Well this post didn't go to far.... I guess not to many with the single side draft out there.... any how I have a question.... I was wondering willz and KoHeartsGPA do you guys know what your running for timing?.... I think I need to bump up my timing.... I've read in a few articles that the weber dcoe like a little extra timing... i started the motor with the timing on the low side just to get it broken in... I think right now I am around 12 initial and full around 34...
  8. Can't wait to hear how well it works... Curious how quickly it will start giving you the correct readings..... I so need to purchase mine....
  9. FYI I love that you wanna keep and mod the L16, we are a select few... I love matching numbers for some reason that's why I chose to build my L16 over a motor swap... I'm surprised someone hasn't told you to swap the motor yet... seems to be the trend. I will say getting all the extra power out of an l16 takes time and money but it is possible.... So do you not like SU carbs? I hear you can make good power with them.. just wondering... I have a single weber 40dcoe on my engine, really nice carb, but I never even held and SU, nevermind tuning one.... Anyhow you mentioned some sss stuff, what head is on the motor?... that's gonna be the biggest key to making power with the L16... Pm if you'd like more details or for any extra info I learned while building my motor. Or I can respond here but I didnt wanna clutter your build post talking about my stuff.... Keep up the good work...
  10. Nice build so far, love the 510's, I think my 521s was that same color originally.... so did you get the motor built yet?... are you still deciding?... just curious on your hp hopes.... your hopes seem a little high for at the wheel numbers but possible for at the crank.... I saw one guy post 104 at the wheels which means approximately 130 at the crank.... I've build my motor a bit and I'm showing 90 at the wheels, 105 at the crank... and I haven't even tuned it... hoping for another 10hp when finished... Here's a couple charts....
  11. I can only hope mine turns out as clean... So far i only pulled the wires I need to into the engine bay, enough so I could start my motor.. now I need to hide and cover things.

    A ratty ratsun

Truck just screams character.... personally I love the dents with a patina like that.... but damn that bumper has to go.... I can only imagine how much one of those bumpers weighs.... sweet truck...
  13. Actually other way....no that black was my doing.... original color is that beige color underneath..... I painted the whole truck about 15 years ago with 20 cans of 99cent flat black from homedepot....
  14. Well black and yellow goes to the starter... I think the white is 12v, black white should be ignition and the blue acc... You should be able to tie the white, black and white, and blue together to make all the lights turn on.... touch power to the black and yellow and the starter should start cranking.....
  15. Figured I'd share this.... this is what pays the bills... This is the biggest part I work on... It's the inside half of a very large 4.5ft diameter x 5ft tall hydrostatic bearing.
  16. Stripping the doors revealed the original color....
  17. If you like it doesn't matter what anyone but your self thinks....its just looks that can be reversed... its nothing that's gonna cause an unsafe driving condition....
  18. Got back to work on my truck started on the doors and hinges... got a little table top drill press to help with repinning the hinges.... The door looks like some one mounted 5 different mirrors on it... has about 8 or 10 holes in it I need to weld up.. ..
  19. Can't wait to see how that o2 setup works.... I got a bit more work to do before I need to buy mine so I'll be very interested to see how you like it...

Just curious why that would make a difference?.... Seems like either way would work?.. both are still under the axle... but I have no idea that's why I asked...
  22. Well I just realized your steering wheels are on the right.... must be Australia... and I guess holden isn't rare there... seems like Australias Chevy Keep forgetting not everyone here is in the United States ...
  23. 2nd that.... I'd even keep the paint as is if possible.... good possibility it's original.... may have been neglected but looks all there....
  24. Before i bothered doing anything I'd first hook up a vacuum to see how those butterflies operate... I have no idea about your vacuum set up or what the it takes to operate those. last thing I'd think you want is them closing while your driving. As I stated worse case convert it a mechanical setup.... then the opening and closing will match your carb and pedal...
